Your expertise will be critical to ensuring the timely, efficient and effective delivery of the program in accordance with Ministry operational policies and procedures, while providing optimal utilization of all resources.

The Correctional Services Division of the Ministry of the Solicitor General in the Ontario Public Service is responsible for maintaining and operating provincial correctional institutions for adult offenders, 18 years and over, who are serving a sentence of up to two years less a day or who are awaiting criminal proceedings. This ministry is also responsible for the community supervision of persons on probation, conditional sentences and provincial parole.

What can I expect to do in this role?

As the Food Services Manager you will:

• Plan, supervise and coordinate food preparation, production and delivery for the institution
• Oversee ordering requirements, maintain inventories of food supplies, and authorize payment of monthly billings
• Plan and post weekly menus using a computerized food services software
• Maintain data and records of meals served, including number and types of special diets/meals ordered and provided, and daily usage and losses
• Establish and maintain effective and efficient food preparation and production methods and operations
• Prepare and assume responsibility for the food services operating budget
• Provide supervision, direction and training to staff and inmate helpers

How do I qualify?

Management and Leadership Skills

• You demonstrate the leadership behaviours, attributes and mindset for leaders, across the organization, to lead the OPS into the future and deliver our vision.
• You can manage and coordinate the overall kitchen and food services operations, and provide technical, administrative and operational direction to staff
• You can provide effective financial, material and human resources management
• You support a values-based, inclusive and engaged team environment
• You assign and coordinate work, evaluate performance, identify staff training needs and resolve or escalates employee relations matters.

Knowledge and Experience

• You have knowledge of food services management, including cooking and preparation methods and procedures, cost control, menu planning principles, restricted diet and basic nutrition, meat preparation, and equipment operation and care
• You have experience working in a large food production facility
• You can interpret and apply legislation, policies and procedures related to food services, nutrition and waste management

Analytical Thinking, Planning and Coordination Skills

• You can identify and resolve a range of food services operational issues
• You can coordinate a wide range of activities in the kitchen, analyze food inventory and food service needs, and develop processes to enhance service delivery
• You can produce detailed and complex records and reports

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

• You can communicate effectively with senior management, institutional staff, suppliers and stakeholders to exchange information, solve problems and provide effective service
• You can provide technical expertise and guidance to staff and inmate helpers
