Mint Innovation has been developing innovative cleantech since 2016. Our mission is to provide low-carbon, circular economy solutions for recovering critical metals from waste (the urban mine) via plants in major cities around the world.
We’re nearing completion of our first electronic waste recycling facility in Western Sydney, which will showcase the innovative tech we’ve developed for recovering base and precious metals (e.g. copper & gold) from old scrap electronics. Following in its footsteps will be a roll-out of plants in major cities globally, as well as the deployment of further product lines.
Mint is spooling up its in-house design capability to ship new project packages around the world. For this to happen we need you, a senior mechanical drafter, to join our tight-knit engineering team to provide CAD system oversight. With 5+ years of experience wrangling both Autodesk and the engineers feeding you specs, you can draft 2D process plant diagrams and intuitively bring them into 3D with tidy pipe runs and operator-accessible componentry. Your prior work on piping layouts in industrial settings, such as pharmaceutical, oil & gas, dairy or even building services/HVAC will be critical in your new role, as will your mechanical engineering background for the support structures and bespoke systems we have a habit of developing.
Your first priority will be to get up to speed with the existing designs for our Sydney plant and think about how to optimise and reconcile to the footprint of our next project site. We’re also overhauling how we administer future projects, so your significant experience at setting up and maintaining industrial projects in the Autodesk ecosystem will be invaluable for streamlining Mint’s CAD function. There’ll be new tech coming down the pipe from our scientists to design, you’ll be exposed to large-scale project delivery on a global scale, and there’ll be the opportunity to help manage and mentor external/internal drafting resources. The work will be varied and keep you on your toes, and we’ll be counting on you to use your prior licks to help identify and solve design/general arrangement problems as they arise.
In all, this is an amazing opportunity to join a growing tech startup in the cleantech space. You’ll have a high degree of autonomy to get things done, and you’ll appreciate the importance and consequence your role has on the company’s success.
The position is full-time, and will be located at our HQ in East Tamaki, Auckland. You’ll report to the Director of Engineering. With a competitive salary, flexible/remote working arrangements and access to our employee share option programme, you’ll also have the opportunity to further your career as we grow the company internationally.
Your main responsibilities will be to:
As a company that was born in a dingy basement, everyone at Mint has a “can do, no fuss” attitude and our Senior Mechanical Drafter will be no different. We want someone who has a bias for action, a strong sense of urgency when it comes to solving problems – as a growing company, the right attitude and cultural fit is paramount.
Our ideal candidate will have as many of the following qualities as possible:
If the above sounds like you, apply with your CV via Seek and we’ll send you a link to a questionnaire as a first assessment. We’re aiming to shortlist and interview candidates through October for a start in December.
We embrace diversity and inclusion and are committed to equal opportunities. We actively encourage applications from all backgrounds. Please note you must have the right to work in New Zealand to apply for this job. Regrettably we will not be offering visa sponsorship to relocate.
