MongoDB is expanding a new team in Sydney to build tooling to help customers migrate their applications from relational databases to MongoDB. As companies modernise their application development ecosystem, it’s natural to take advantage of the flexibility of the document model. Tools developed by the Migrator team will help application developers with data modeling for MongoDB, getting started with application development using MongoDB, as well as data sync and migration.

We are seeking a full stack engineer who is passionate about usability, clean design and data intensive applications to join our team. We’re building a web application using a modern technology stack, including Javascript (ES6+), Typescript, React, Java, Spring Boot and Apache Kafka. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with product management and other MongoDB engineers to help drive the design and implementation of a cutting edge product.

We are fully remote optional through April 4, 2022. Afterwards, this role will be based in our Sydney office with a flexible, in-office hybrid model.

The ideal candidate for this role will have

• 2+ years commercial experience developing in a related role
• Experience or exposure to web technologies, including JavaScript, Typescript or React.js
• Experience or exposure to server-side languages such as Java (or Kotlin/Python/etc), REST APIs and databases
• Ability to write high-performance, reusable code including appropriate unit, functional and integration testing
• Good understanding of algorithms and data structures, and their time and space performance
• Curiosity, a positive attitude, and a drive to always learn something new
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Position Expectations

• Contribute high quality code across the full stack of our product
• Give and solicit feedback on code reviews and scope/specification documents
• Collaborate with Product Management and UX design teams, help prioritize the backlog and plan sprints
• Mentor junior engineers, collaborate with peers, share your knowledge

Success Measures

Within the first three months, you will have:

• Familiarised yourself with the MongoDB database and aggregation language
• Set up software development infrastructure (tech stack, build tools, etc) to enable efficient development
• Started collaborating with your product manager and other peers to turn design prototypes into working features
• Participated in code reviews with other members of the team

Within six months, you will have:

• Familiarised yourself with our frontend and backend tech stacks
• Worked on and delivered a small/medium scale feature in the product
• Helped deliver at least one release of the product
• Contributed to writing scope and design documents

Within 12 months, you will have:

• Contributed to the vision for the product
• Worked on and delivered features across our entire tech stack
• Helped recruit and interview new members of the team
• Collaborated with other teams at MongoDB
