Hours/Season: 40-45 hours, starting Mid-March to early July. The Greenhouse is open 7 days a week to the public, so hours and days off will vary.
Report to: Greenhouse Manager
Wage: $17.00 – $19.00 an hour depending on experience

Morning Glory Farm has 5 greenhouses in total, with 1 greenhouse open to the public for selling plants for our customer’s gardens, 2 of the greenhouses are dedicated to transplants for our own fields and the remaining 2 greenhouses dedicated for early season tomatoes. We have a full selection of top-quality vegetable transplants, all grown from seed here at the farm. Our Greenhouse production is focused on edible plant starts, vegetables, herbs, flowers, and micro-greens program for sale at our Farmstand, Wholesale Department, and weekly farmers markets (summer and fall).

Greenhouse work starts early March with seeding large quantities of a wide variety of crops for the field as well as for starts to sell to customer for their own garden. By May, we move into more transplanting of crops, which can include up to 40 different varities of tomatoes, potting up into larger containers for customers and helping them with advice for their own gardens. Team members should have a strong work ethic, customer friendly, and be ready to learn about the tools and trades of farming. With a great diversity of tasks, this is the best position for someone new to farming and/or manual labor. There may be an opportunity to be promoted into a leadership position depending on performance.

In our daily work, we:

• Perform daily tasks including but not limited to seeding, thinning, rotating, labelling, transplanting, hand weeding, hoeing, moving plants and irrigation, watering, and harvesting crops. We are also hand mixing soil as well as filling plug trays and pots for seeding and transplanting for both field and customer sales.
• Assists in maintaining proper conditions for the growth of greenhouse stock by watering, weeding, pruning, fertilizing, removing dead leaves, repotting and relocating material.
• Maintain clean and sanitary conditions in the greenhouse, potting area, and storage areas by washing and sterilizing pots, baskets and flats used for greenhouse stock, sweeping floors, and proper cleaning of tools and equipment.
• Assisting customers with purchases and growing advice for seasonal annuals, perennials, herbs and vegetables. In addition, processing purchases and payments through our POS system both in person and via telephone.
• Monitoring crops and greenhouse systems, observing pests and nutrient problems with crops and reporting any problems to the Greenhouse Manager.
• May transition to Field Crew later in the season.
• Willingness to work and preparation for working outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Daily use and safe-handling of greenhouse equipment including box cutters,tillers, garden hoses, pruners, shears, rakes and additional gardening supplies
• Ability to move quickly while supporting our very high quality standards. Food quality is very important to us.
• Performs related job duties as assigned.
