Mott MacDonald Looking for Water Utility Monitoring Technician at Wellington City, Wellington Full Time

We are seeking a Water Utility Monitoring Technician to join a specialist water utility monitoring team working on critical water and wastewater network monitoring projects based in Wellington. Our monitoring programs underpin large infrastructure upgrades and provide real-time data on network performance, water quality and consent compliance. Our team is highly regarded in the industry and over many years have developed proven systems to deliver quality results for clients.

It is a physically active, mostly outdoor role. A typical day will see you installing and servicing high tech gadgets in environments such as wastewater manholes, stormwater pipes, above ground instrument cabinets and treatment plants. The nature of the work means you can’t be afraid to get a little dirty from time to time while you work on interesting technical problems.

You’ll be working with a small crew or alone and safety won’t be compromised. The site-based aspects are balanced with office based organisational work including checking data, scheduling maintenance, assessing data trends, and reporting on the performance of your sites to engineers, scientists, and managers within our Water team.

The role offers a huge range of skill and knowledge development which open opportunities for career development. These include water network operation, hydrology, instrumentation, electronics, hydraulic data analysis, web-based data management, safety management, work scheduling and much more.

About you:

We are open to meeting candidates with varying backgrounds who are practical, aren’t afraid of working with wastewater, and have a high level of safety awareness. You may already be in the water industry and looking for a change. Tradespeople or labourers looking to move to a more technical field would also be a great fit.

Experience in water, electronics and instrumentation are an advantage however, we recognise that candidates may have not have this. As long as you have a basic set of skills and a good attitude, full job specific training will be provided along with all required safety equipment and vaccinations. A more senior role with matching salary may be offered to candidates with the right background.

Basic ability in word, excel and software is beneficial.

The successful candidate/s will be based in our central Auckland office but may be required to undertake short-term travel both in New Zealand and Australia if required.

The person who ideally will be suited to the role will have the following attributes:

• Interest in water and the environment
• Practical (can skilfully use all standard tools and materials)
• Has basic self-organisational and software skills (email, word, excel etc.)
• Physically fit and able to pass a full medical test
• Willing to work around wastewater and in manholes (confined spaces)
• Willing to work night shifts from time to time
• Able to travel out of town overnight/multiple nights
• Full NZ drivers licence
• Legally entitled to work in New Zealand
