The Environmental Health Specialist Trainee performs a variety of inspection duties toward the promotion and maintenance of environmental health laws in licensed facilities such as food service operations, child care facilities and residential care facilities, public drinking water systems, swimming pools and spa pools, tourist accommodations, schools, and other facilities and duties as required in meeting the Health Department’s mission, vision and goals.
As the Environmental Health Specialist Trainee , you will:
Inspect, grade and assist in enforcement of the State sanitary code in licensed food service establishments, mobile units, child care and residential care facilities; inspect for cleanliness of premises, equipment maintenance and operation, suitability of building structure according to codes, personal hygiene of employees and the preparation and service of food in a sanitary manner
Cite temporary food service establishments for violations of State Sanitary code posing an immediate threats to public health
Inspect tourist facilities to ensure compliance with relevant sanitary codes; inspect public and private swimming pools and spa pools, municipal water supplies and private wells; test water samples for bacteriological and chlorine residues
Educate and communicate environmental health concepts to the community
Investigate food service, fire and sewage complaints; determine validity of complaint and determine most effective method of resolution
Preparing computerized reports and maintaining records as required

Required Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills*:
Must be or meet the Registered Environmental Health Specialist in Training with the State of Oregon as outlined by ORS 700.035.
Must possess a valid State issued Driver’s License
