The Portfolio Manager supports executive leadership in governing departmental initiatives. This position will be looked to by Leadership as a subject-matter expert and thought partner to communicate, govern and support the fit for purpose technology project function at Murphy USA.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide structure, accountability, and consistency in the selection and management of projects across the department. The Portfolio Manager will be responsible for building and implementing project governance framework that aligns with the Enterprise Project management office.
Shepherd technology projects from ideation to funding:
Elicit high-level business outcomes and deliverables
Collect and document project budget estimates using supplied templates
Partner with Technology Sourcing and Procurement to conduct RFP/RFI in support of solution and estimates for projects
Work with Finance to create funding documentation (ROI, capitalization)
Prepare executive-facing status reports in collaboration with multiple team leads
Effectively prepare and present technical and/or educational documentation of assigned projects to enhance the knowledge project team members.
Partner with project managers and project leads to prepare initiation plans, resource requests, cost and benefit accounting and other key inputs to the overall planning process and individual project/program execution.
Coach and mentor Project Managers around multiple areas – work product quality and ownership, content, communications of status, follow-up on open items, etc.
Prepare and present the key performance indicators (KPI) related to accountability and performance of the enterprise initiatives by maintaining the tools and tracking of the key performance indicators (KPI) up front that reflect the planned benefits of the initiatives and then facilitate the process by which MUSA realizes those benefits over time.
Prepare, update, and share with Technology Leadership a comprehensive, forward-looking view of each departmental initiative, highlighting key risks related to budget, timing, and resources based on the output of the PPM tool working with the Program and Project managers.
Prepare and present the resource and change impacts that the enterprise initiatives have on the company; financial, operational, organizational, and technological, working closely with the stewards of those resources to identify potential solutions.
Drive alignment and transparency across initiatives and integrate the initiatives into the broader planning cycle.
Facilitate dialogue with initiative stakeholders in order to align cross-department communication, share best practices, and drive overall transparency across the enterprise initiatives.
The governance position should have prior experience with Microsoft Project Online
Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
7+ years’ of project management experience, managing diverse teams and complex projects.
Experience working in technology project initiation in a large technology/digital environment.
Strategic thinker that can connect business outcomes to technology solutions, strong collaborator, analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
Exceptional communication skills and the ability to communicate at all levels of the organization; including written, verbal, presentation and facilitation skills.
Strong situational analysis and decision-making abilities.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Understanding of value-driven outcomes and metrics.
Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Expertise with project management tools or software packages (Project Portfolio Management (PPM) Tools, such as Clarity, etc.)
Expert proficiency in office productivity software and tools (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Keynote, Google Suite, SmartSheet, etc.)
