Napier City Council Looking for Governance Advisor at Napier, Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand Full Time

Napier City Council are seeking a new Governance Advisor to join our Corporate Services Team. You will be the linchpin strategy and execution, providing secretariat support and governance advice for meetings and coordinate triennial local authority elections and responses to official information requests.

You will work closely with our Team Leader Governance by contributing to the ongoing development of governance arrangements and advice, general governance-related administration services, advise staff on the terms of reference for Council Committees and so much more.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Develop and follow processes to ensure the smooth preparation for, and running of, all designated meetings and workshops.
• Ensure that elected members, appointed members, appropriate staff, media, and participating members of the public are notified of all details relating to designated meetings
• Support meeting Chairs prior to and during Council and Committee meetings.
• Advise elected members in relation to their obligations to declare interests and manage the registers of elected members’ interest.
• Organise the induction programme and required documentation for new elected members
• Contribute to the ongoing development of a high performing and competent team

To be considered for this role, you will have:

• University degree or comparable work experience
• Extensive experience in formal writing and meeting procedures including standing orders.
• Interpreting legislation and following processes to comply with legislation.
• At least 5 years in a similar role working with Councils or Boards
• Politically astute and able to maintain confidentiality
• High standard of inter-personal skills with the ability to liaise and communicate both in writing and verbally with elected members and senior staff
• Quality assurance of work of others
