Napier City Council Looking for National Aquarium of New Zealand – Cafe/Kitchen Assistant at Napier, Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand Full Time

The National Aquarium of New Zealand is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Café & Kitchen Assistant to join our team. This is a part-time position working 36 hours per week. The shift pattern for this position is 8am – 5.30pm, Sunday – Wednesday.

The Cafe & Kitchen Assistant will support the Café Lead to ensure consistent delivery of food services, providing catering and food services to the highest standard. This involves preparing food and beverages whilst maintaining food safety, hygiene and quality control.

This role is hands-on and the duties include:

• General food preparation
• Customer service
• Cash handling
• Cleaning the café and the kitchen

This is a commercial operation, so applicants must be dependable and reliable, with the passion and drive for delivering the best produce and customer service.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Previous kitchen experience in cafe environment and a sound working knowledge of the Food & Beverage and/or Hospitality industry in general
• Ability to confidently prepare a wide variety of hot and cold food and beverages (barista experience an added advantage)
• NCEA level 3 – such as National Certificate in Food & Beverage Service Level 3, or NZ Certificate in Cookery, or NZ Certificate in Baking or equivalent
• Food Safety Course NZQA Unit 167 – Practice Food Safety Methods in a Food Business
• Confident in cash handling and interacting with our customers
• Flexibility to work on weekdays, weekends, and public holidays
