Napier City Council Looking for Survey Technician at Napier, Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand Full Time

Napier City Council has an exciting opportunity for a qualified Survey Technician to join our Council’s Infrastructure team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is looking to either start or develop their career in the surveying field.

As a Survey Technician, you will be responsible for supporting the Senior Engineering Surveyor in carrying out land surveying, coordinating and conducting engineering surveys to support key design, construction, data capture and operational activities of the Infrastructure team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in field survey work including collecting data using surveying equipment, setting up and maintaining survey markers, and performing survey calculations.
• Prepare survey reports, plans, and maps using computer-aided drafting (CAD) software.
• Ensure all survey work meets quality and safety standards, and adhere to project timelines and budgets.
• Maintain accurate records of survey data and documentation.
• Provide support to the survey team on various tasks and projects as required.

About You

We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate person with:

• A tertiary qualification in Engineering, Surveying, Geomatics or a related field
• Experience with surveying equipment, such as total stations, GPS, and levels
• Knowledge of CAD software such as 12d and MicroStation
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans, and specifications
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites

However, enthusiasm and passion is what’s most important here. We are also keen to hear from those with practical technical experience, but no formal qualification. Training can be provided via New Zealand Diploma in Surveying (Level 6) or New Zealand Diploma in Engineering (Civil) (Level 6) and study support is available to enable you to achieve this.
