Summary This position is located in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, in the Roads and Trails section, Maintenance Division of Wahweap. Responsibilities The employee will be required to independently perform common and complex Engineering Equipment tasks without normal supervision. Member of a crew of 5-7 employees performing skill labor and equipment operations. Operates gasoline or diesel powered engineering and construction heavy equipment such as graders, bulldozers, loaders, excavators, backhoes, compactors, sewer pumper truck, refuse truck, and truck/trailer combinations. Will serve as Acting Roads & Trails foreman in absence of the supervisor and may direct small crews of permanent or seasonal labors/Terms when designated. Will be required as needed to provide administrative duties and/or support for project writing for cyclic projects, support for; Financial & Business Management System (FBMS) and Facilities Management Software System (FMSS). Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker endorsements is mandatory. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use. You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver’s license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver’s licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. You must possess and maintain a current Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker endorsements. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period. You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 5 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. Applicants must be at least 18 years old. Performed work operating heavy engineering equipment on steep and on rough terrain to excavate, backfill, grade or level earth, including roads, to rough specifications. Operated equipment on flat and rolling terrain to excavate, backfill, grade or level earth, including roads to exact specifications. Operated equipment to haul materials and/or equipment to and from jobsites. If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient and/or you do not meet the Selective Factor above, you will receive no further consideration. A relocation incentive is not the same as a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move and, as such, may be granted in conjunction with one another. Physical Demands: Is required to operate equipment for ten-hour periods, climbing in and out of different machines, pushing and pulling levers continuously while machine is in operation, and may lift such items as opening and closing tail gate on fifteen-yard dump truck. Must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry a variety of tools and equipment; must be able to handle weights up to 100 pounds. Does considerable walking, standing, bending, kneeling, stretching, climbing, crawling, and working in confined spaces and tiring positions. Is frequently required to work in awkward or strained positions. Working Conditions: Works outside and inside and is exposed to hot and humid weather and/or extremely cold weather. Ice, road oils, and other items such as loose gravel, and rocks create hazardous conditions. The operator is exposed to potential injury and subjected to noise, vibration, dust, dirt, and fumes from motors and exhausts. When working inside must ensure proper ventilation to minimize fumes while welding, and/or other fumes caused by equipment or vehicles.
