Summary You will serve as a MAINTENANCE MECHANIC LEADER in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of NAV FACILITIES ENGINEERING COMMAND SE. Responsibilities You will determine resource requirements for scheduled maintenance work to plan work assignments. You will arrange for materials, tools, equipment, and supplies to be on the job site for completion of assigned tasks. You will issue, handle, or store parts and equipment to maintain inventory levels. You will explain procedures, policies, written instructions, or other directives to others performing maintenance work. You will operate tools and equipment following established safety rules and regulations to maintain a clean and safe working environment. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. The Screen-out Element for this position is: (1) Using hand tools applicable to the trade, e.g., power tools, such as cable pullers, hydraulic benders, and pipe threading machines; and a wide variety of test equipment, e.g.; meggers, multimeters, frequency meters, watt meters, and testing systems such as, signal generators, signal tracers, oscilloscopes and/or automatic testing systems; (2) Planning, laying out, and completing installation, modification, and repair of new and existing electrical and/or mechanical systems; and (3) Interpreting building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering documents, drawings, and maintenance and repair manuals to plan work Applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations.
