Salary Grade – GN09 *Recruitment Range $36,677 – $62,092
This position will serve as a Transportation Supervisor I in the Durham County Maintenance Office. Employee is required to supervise a crew of workers in the following functional areas: grading, patching/pavement maintenance, shoulder/ditch operations, pipe installation and drainage, and clearing/grubbing etc. Work may require extended work hours to include snow/ice removal and/or storm debris removal. This employee will be exposed to extreme heat and cold, dust, outside conditions and high volume of traffic while in work zones. Class “A” CDL driver’s license required. CDL permit must be obtained within 60 days of employment. CDL license must be obtained within 90 days of employment. Pre-employment drug testing is required for this position. As a condition of employment, a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be completed and signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past two years about controlled substances and alcohol testing. Position may require heavy lifting. Steel toe shoes required within 30 days of employment. Will be required to wear appropriate personal protection equipment consistent with the hazard (including, but not limited to: hardhat, safety vest, earplugs, gloves, etc.)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
Qualified applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:
Experience in road maintenance and repair, as well as, maintenance equipment operation
Experience in record keeping, such as tracking employee and equipment time and recording quantities of materials used
Experience in NCDOT snow and ice operations
Experience in Basic Work Zone Safety and NCDOT Workplace Safety Policy and Practices
Experience in planning work and supervising a work crew
Additional Expectations:
Must be able to maintain close team environment or work independently. Employee will be subject to emergency call back and must have the ability to supervise work crews 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for situations which may occur after working hours, on weekends and holidays. The person in this position will conduct daily safety meetings, complete various record/time keeping forms, and train employees.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school or General Educational Development diploma and six years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience. Experience must be related to functional area of the work that the position will supervise.
