Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for an Economic Development Specialist located at a negotiable location. Position closes February 2, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time.
Position Summary
The Economic Development Specialist’s activities focus on supporting actions which contribute to improving economic conditions, generating increased employment, and attracting new electric load to NPPD’s service area. The incumbent supports NPPD’s economic development activities by assisting in the promotion of sustained economic development within NPPD’s Service Territory by focusing on marketing and promotion with a strong emphasis placed on site development and business retention and expansion. The Economic Development Specialist is also responsible for responding to routine requests for information and data from internal and external customers.
Education, Training and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Communications, Marketing or related degree (preferred) and three years’ experience as listed below, (OR) Associate’s Degree in a related area and five years’ experience as listed below.
Comfortable with Adobe software products, specifically InDesign, Microsoft Office, virtual meeting platforms and survey tools.
Strong customer service skills and proven positive and effective working relationships
Prior Related Experience:
Professional level in customer service and/or economic development environment. Experience using electronic/digital and online data applications. Experience using proper terminology and verbiage to use on economic development documents, presentations, etc. preferred.
Working knowledge of Adobe InDesign is required.
Licenses and/or Certifications
Completion of Basic Economic Development Course/Economic Development Institute is desired within five years of entry into position.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Respond, prepare, and compile technical information for Requests for Information, presentations, reports, lead generation, complex economic development materials, and promotional pieces to satisfy external customer requests. Must be able to meet extremely short deadlines for prospects and diverse external audiences. Establishes and maintains effective working relations with Economic Development Consultants, internal departments, and external partners to ensure successful development, design, maintenance, and administration of economic development programs and services.
Conduct specialized surveys in support of economic development activities for rural public power districts, community entities (city and chamber), and economic developers using a cloud-based survey application. This includes but is not limited to question creation, overall survey design, and collection and reporting of responses from external audiences. Prepare reports and present survey results for customer use.
Assist in the retention of electrical load by participating in business retention calls on existing business and other activities to retain business and industry in areas served by the District.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities (Continued)
Support additional load growth by providing technical assistance and administration to assist in the identification and development of additional properties. This includes but is not limited to administration of NPPD’s Site Readiness Program, also serving as a technical advisor and liaison with customers to help maintain site and building information. Will also work with team to create and facilitate one-on-one trainings and classroom/webinar style trainings.
Support the maintenance of the department’s online economic development activities including assisting in the: a) maintenance of searchable database (LOIS); b) maintenance of the economic development website and customer engagement platform tools with the Economic Development Manager; c) responding to and coordinating responses to online communications between customers and prospects and d) serving as the point of contact with NPPD’s web development team.
Supports the enhancement of local quality of life and building load through various publications including the Community Guide and Community Guide Lite, site and building brochures, promotional materials, marketing, and communication materials (maps, posters, flyers, etc.). Responsible for establishing excellent working relationships with Rural Public Power Districts, community entities (City and Chamber), and economic developers to obtain accurate community information. The incumbent performs independent research on the Internet for economic development data. The incumbent drafts, designs, edits, and produces complex and technical documents by using office technology application software: desktop publishing (InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Media Bank, Tableau and Microsoft Office Products), HTML, electronic file transfer, spreadsheets, graphics, databases, and subscription data services.
Plan, coordinate, and revise material and articles for publication in department published documents, newsletters and websites. Work with team to review story ideas and create content calendar for monthly digital newsletter and other published materials.

Salary Information – Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth.
Pay Grade – 11 Monthly
Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $4,953.46 – $6,191.83 per month
Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska) Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
