About us

⅓ of all food produced in Australia is wasted, costing the economy billions, wasting land and water resources, and contributing excess greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, on any given day, hundreds of thousands of Australian households are facing food insecurity and are struggling to put food on the table. This problem is complex and driven by a variety of factors, such as on-farm damage, supply and demand mismatch, and unmet cosmetic standards.

We are a new, profit-for-purpose startup on a mission to solve the food waste problem. We’re creating a digital platform that will unite the ecosystem and reduce food waste by:

• Providing food producers and buyers a simple and trustworthy way to buy, sell, move and donate excess produce

• Automating logistics of produce from sellers to buyers, regardless of location within the country

• Identifying additional innovation opportunities through data & insights

We are currently operating in private beta and will launch publicly in late 2023. We’re backed by a number of major investors, including W23, Woolworths Group’s venture capital fund.

About the role

The Frontend Engineer role will be responsible for developing and delivering the platform frontend. You will work with Product and Design stakeholders to co-create an exceptional user experience for both buyers and sellers on the platform.

In this role you will…

Collaborate with stakeholders to co-create the user experience

• Contribute towards the user experience strategy

• Design and implement user friendly, accessible, and visually appealing user interfaces

• Contribute towards co-creating a high quality and engaging user experience

Build exceptional user interfaces

• Build quality software that conforms to engineering best practices – writing well-documented and easily readable code

• Create custom UI and interactive experiences, aligning to design and product requirements

• Champion a focus on software qualities such as testability, security, scalability, operability etc.

• Collaborate with backend engineers to integrate frontend with platform’s functionality

• Have a strong emphasis on quality coding following the testing pyramid. There should be no compromise when it comes to security and so understanding the infrastructure and best practices of OWASP Top 10, payment compliance and data protection for Australians is important.

About you

You should have…

• 3+ years of hands-on development and delivery experience in building digital products

• Passion and interest for solving the problem of food waste

• High proficiency in front-end technologies including HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS3

• Familiarity with code versioning tools (Git, Github)

• Extensive knowledge of React or equivalent frameworks (Vue, Angular, Svelte, etc.)

• Familiarity with React Native or Expo and the mobile publishing process for both iOS and Android

• Experience with creating custom UI components

• An eye for “design” and strong attention to detail

• Experience in Agile software development lifecycle environments
