We are looking for someone who can represent the New Zealand Customs Service | Te Mana Ārai o Aotearoa across a range of interagency forums supporting engagement on national security matters, specifically relating to major events that are likely to have a significant impact on New Zealand’s border. New Zealand Customs Service | Te Mana Ārai o Aotearoa protects New Zealand’s border using world-class tools, world-class people and innovative approaches.
The Intelligence, Investigations and Enforcement (II&E) Group’s mission is to protect the integrity of New Zealand’s border system. Within II&E sits the National Security & Emergency Management team whose primary aim is to support and represent Customs within the National Security and ODESC Systems.

The Role Will Hold Responsibilities Under The Following Areas
This role is at the rank of Senior Customs Officer (Grade 2) within the National Security & Emergency Management team.
By focusing on translating strategic requirements into operational planning, identifying and acting on opportunities, and working across the business and external stakeholders, you will play an integral part in ensuring that Customs actively contributes to, and benefits from, the planning and preparation for Major Events across the National Security System.
You Will Be Part Of a Team That
This role is Wellington-based and full-time. This is a permanent position but we would also consider this position as a funded secondment opportunity for the right candidate at a minimum of 18 months.

This role has a strong focus on stakeholder engagement at all levels, internally and externally. You will need a proven track record of building and sustaining a range of strong relationships and providing high quality service delivery.
Your ability to communicate effectively using a high standard of written and oral communication skills appropriate to a variety of audiences will be highly valued.
In addition, you will have strong problem solving capability, including the ability to identify problems, manage or mitigate risks and implement solution based outcomes, sometimes in high pressure situations.
Experience in Major Events planning and/or a solid understanding of border processes and policy is essential. An understanding of the National Security System will be strongly beneficial.
You should be able to demonstrate that you are self-motivating and that you are sound in decision making.

The salary range for this role is $75,971 – $96,013, with $87,400 representing midpoint or proficiency in the role.

You will need to be able to obtain a national security clearance to a “Top Secret” level. In order to obtain this you need to be a New Zealand Citizen or New Zealand Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in New Zealand for the last 10 years and resides in NZ at time of application;
OR a New Zealand Citizen or New Zealand Permanent Resident who has resided in New Zealand for the last 10 years and resides in NZ at time of application, but may have been absent from New Zealand for periods of six or more months within the past 10 years. You may be required to provide overseas police certificates for these periods spent outside of New Zealand.
You must have a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service towards a recommendation of suitability for security clearance at a higher level.
