If you have excellent planning and coordination skills, we have a great opportunity for you to work with teams across Customs and other agencies to plan high-level internal and external events, including international delegations and ministers’ visits.
These events and visits not only showcase the great work Customs does, but they are important for delivering our strategy, which is focused on protecting New Zealand and its economy from threats including transnational organised crime and fraud, and to support New Zealand and our importers and exporters grow our economy. Our work relies on good partnerships, and these are the focus of our events and visits.
As well as providing the planning and coordination support for external events, the Events Specialist develops key internal events, and provides high-quality advice, guidance, and information to Customs teams to support their event development requirements.
To thrive in this role, you need to have good planning and people skills, attention to detail, and show good awareness and judgement. As well as gaining great understanding of a wide range of Customs functions, you will get valuable insights into the considerations of Ministers and senior leaders.

To join Customs in any role you must be a New Zealand citizen or NZ permanent resident. *
You must have a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service towards a recommendation of suitability for security clearance at a higher level. Due to the nature of Customs work, you must have a clear Police record. The successful applicant will also be required to pass a drug test.
