We provide health and disability services to more than half a million people living in central Auckland, regional services for Northland and greater Auckland, and specialist national services for the whole of New Zealand. The haematology laboratory provides a comprehensive diagnostic and laboratory haematology service to the Auckland City Hospital and the ambulatory services of the hospital and the Greenlane Clinical Centre. Our hospital is a major teaching and research centre for haematologists in training and haematology laboratory scientists and has close liaison with the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, University of Auckland.
The haematology laboratory provides a 24 hour general haematology service including blood counts/morphology and haemostasis, as well as specialised services in thrombosis and haemostasis and special haematology investigations. The flow cytometry section is the largest in the country and provides services to the wider Auckland region and Northland as well as specialised tests (MRD) for the rest of the country. We work closely with the Department of Diagnostic Genetics

We are looking to employ a consultant laboratory haematologist in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (LabPLUS) at Auckland City Hospital to join a motivated and supportive team of laboratory and clinical haematologists striving to provide first-class diagnostic services.
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is the New Zealand’s largest in house hospital laboratory service. It is an IANZ accredited medical laboratory and is one of New Zealand’s premier laboratories. We offer a comprehensive pathology service for Auckland City Hospital, Starship Children’s Hospital, National Women’s Health, and the Greenlane Clinical Centre. LabPLUS is also a major referral laboratory for specialised laboratory tests for New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. Visit our website www.labplus.co.nz for more information.

Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills
As the ideal person for this role you must be registered with the New Zealand Medical Council as a Specialist Pathologist, with FRCPA or equivalent qualification and must have specialist experience in laboratory haematology and teaching of undergraduates, registrars and hospital staff. Experience with flow cytometric analyses including minimal residual disease testing is desirable.
Full time commitment is preferrable.
