Registrarial Administrator, Waitangi Tribunal Unit, Wellington

The Waitangi Tribunal is a permanent commission of inquiry charged with making recommendations on claims brought by Māori relating to Tiriti o Waitangi. It holds a unique place in the New Zealand constitutional framework. The Tribunal’s work includes registering claims, conducting and analysing research, liaising with external claimant parties, and writing reports.

Te āhuatanga a te tūranga/About the Role

The Registrarial Administrator supports the Waitangi Tribunal by performing functions that are essential to the effective operation of the organisation. These functions include:

• Administrative & Research Support to the Registrar, Senior Records & Information Advisor, Deputy Registrars and Assistant Registrars
• Relationship Management
• Contributing to the team effectiveness in the Claims and Registrarial team

He pūkenga tou/Skills and Experience

To be successful in the role you will have:

• Experience in providing administration services
• Prior experience in a legal environment – law student, law firm or court environment – where the importance and accuracy of the legal process has been learned is desirable
• Ability to undertake legal, policy and procedural research
• Ability to manage a number of tasks simultaneously
• Strong time management and organisational skills
• High level of attention to detail and high standards of accuracy
• Experience as a member of a multi-skilled team and supporting team members
• Strong oral and written communication skills are essential
• Experience and knowledge of appropriate office PC-based technologies, including Microsoft Office suite, web and database applications, and online data resources
• Knowledge and understanding of statutory requirements in relation to the Treaty of Waitangi, and of protocols and procedures relevant to the Waitangi Tribunal is highly desirable
• Knowledge of, and respect for, Māori cultural values and customs (tikanga) is highly desirable
• Knowledge of Te Reo Māori and/or a willingness to continue learning
• Knowledge of and commitment to the work of the Waitangi Tribunal is highly desirable
• Experience using administrative skills

A commitment to further develop your knowledge in Te Reo and Tikanga Māori will be an advantage.

Salary Range: The appointing salary for this role will be between $50,128 to $70,768 based on skills and experience.
