• Based at Kapiti Digital Centre
• Remuneration starting from $73,207 – $84,993
• Permanent Full-Time, Non-sworn Employee

About the role

Te Tari Pūreke – Firearms Safety Authority are responsible for overseeing lawful firearms possession in New Zealand. We implement the firearms licencing system, manage the firearms registry, and educate people to enable compliance and promote the safe use of firearms.

Our purpose is to effectively regulate the legitimate possession and use of firearms to keep all communities safe.

The Compliance and Resolutions teams take every opportunity to prevent harm by working with partner agencies, the firearms community, and other Policing groups to educate and enable compliance with the Arms Act 1983 and Arms Regulations 1992 and enforce when required. To support this, the Regulatory Services Supervisor within the Firearms Resolutions Team will provide leadership and management of regulatory compliance and resolutions and deliver a high-quality service the public deserve and expect.

Your leadership will build a culture of high performance which results in teams that are inclusive, innovative, agile, and passionate in meeting Te Tari Pūreke’s outcomes.

The role is based in Kapiti. The role is a rotational supervisory position to meet the needs of Te Tari Pūreke and your own development.

Key Accountabilities:

• Team management and looking after our people
• Lead the day-to-day operational functionality of the Resolutions Team
• Ensure resolutions activities are completed in a timely, efficient, and effective manner to maintain regulatory compliance and public safety
• Lead the practice of the Police High Performance Framework (PHPF) within the team
• Develop a culture based on the core values of the NZ Police encouraging diversity, and creating an environment where everyone can thrive
• Establish and maintain positive relationships with district Te Tari Pūreke workgroups, and the relevant internal and external stakeholders
• Use interpersonal skills and effective communication to provide regulatory advice to licence holders and Police staff
• Be adaptable to ongoing change
• Identify and analyze non-compliance or patterns of behaviour in order to complete thorough and accurate risk assessments of licence holder activities
• Understand and manage the application of regulatory tools and processes

• Knowledge and experience in delivering firearms functions of NZ Police commensurate with the legislative requirements of the Arms Act 1983, Arms Regulations 1992 and the arms chapter in Police instructions.
• Experience in leading staff operationally and administratively by displaying leadership behaviours, which promote Police values and foster a positive team environment
• Enable the effective performance of individuals and your team through PHPF (including performance management of staff)
• Good computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft 365, NIA, SAS, iNet (not essential) and Firearms Case Management particularly as it relates to meeting requirements of the Arms Act 1983 and Arms Regulations 1992.
• Excellent time management and multitasking skills, and the ability to work in a busy environment with frequent interruptions
• Demonstrate building relationships and partnerships (internal and external) where trust and confidence is built and information is shared effectively.
• Strong analytical and written communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills and confidence so you can deal with the firearms licence community
