About the business 

Rugby league has played a significant part in New Zealand sport for over 100 years. Formed in 1910, New Zealand Rugby League (NZRL) is the governing body for the sport of rugby league in New Zealand.

NZRL is divided into seven zones that service the grassroots needs of the game. These zones compete in the National Premiership/Championship, as well as women’s, youth and schools’ competitions. NZRL manages the Kiwis and Kiwi Ferns who play regular international fixtures and compete in the Rugby League World Cup every four years.

Key functions of the role 

To develop, implement and promote the delivery of programs that maximize the participation of players and coaches throughout the Bay of Plenty District with a particular emphasis on rangatahi and to help deliver a quality experience for all participants.
Help deliver participation goals through collaborating with Zone, District, Clubs and Schools, promoting benefits to participation and driving registration campaigns. This will be carried out in a culturally safe manner and with the participants wellbeing to the fore.

As the role requires travel a vehicle will be provided. You will have the ability to work from home with flexibility with respect to hours and days of work. 

Skills and experience 

• Strong relationship building skills
• Cultural awareness and respect of tikanga and other cultural practices
• Experience working/volunteering in community sport, particularly at the grassroots level
• Working knowledge of grassroots rugby league standards, expectations & opportunities
