We have an exciting vacancy in our North Sydney office for a NodeJS Mid-Level Software Engineer with 9Now.

The Services team is a primarily back-end agile software development team building the “Future of Television”. Our main responsibilities include developing and maintaining the core apps which our suite of 9Now client applications rely upon (CTV, Web, Mobile etc). We have recently re-platformed using the latest cutting edge server driven UI approach leveraging the power of GraphQL. We are always looking to improve and we take a quality first approach in everything that we do. This team is truly at the heart of everything 9Now does and is the engine room which powers all our client applications.

Day to day you will:

• Collaborate with other engineers and cross-functional teams to plan, design, develop and test solutions.
• Mentor and coach junior members of the team.
• Lead feature implementation and development.
• Work across our predominantly back-end tech stack using things like NodeJS, Redis,Varnish, DynamoDB, RDS, etc,
• Embrace a DevOps mindset always looking for ways to improve the team’s speed of delivery, application reliability and security.
• Ensure all our code meets our rigorous quality standards before deployment and champion a “Shift Left” mentality.
• Maintain and monitor our applications providing support when required.

You will be a solid team player, who shows commitment to the team’s purpose and effectively contributes and shares skills/knowledge with others. Equally you are passionate about learning and continuous self improvement. You’ll have an ability to absorb information and act accordingly, often in difficult situations. You will be proactive in discussing solutions and raising ideas for improvement in a positive and professional way, allowing you to build strong relationships.

What we would like to see on your resume:

• Previous experience as a software engineer developing performant, scalable web applications.
• Hands-on experience with NodeJS, NestJS, ExpressJS, or equivalent back-end frameworks.
• Knowledge and understanding of API design best practices.
• Good understanding of general development techniques and frameworks.
• Sound knowledge of defensive coding practices to address common security vulnerabilities.
• Experience with “Cloud Native” application design, development and deployment, AWS or equivalent.
• Unit testing and Test Driven Development.
• Patience and understanding when mentoring and coaching other junior/associate engineers.
• Ability to communicate effectively with non-technical staff.
• Passionate about learning and continuous self improvement.
