Northrop Grumman is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Analysis Intern to join the Space Systems Sector. This position will be located in Dulles, VA, or Gilbert, AZ.
The qualified candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Tactical Space Systems Division.
Roles and Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include the following:
Performing static and dynamic structure analysis.
Reviewing requirements for materials, structure systems & subsystems.
Selecting appropriate technical information and data from applicable products.
Determining the technical principles involved, identifying the design path forward and computing the engineering characteristics to ensure consistency with the specifications design needs and requirements of space applications.
Releasing results as “technical documents” after review by the senior members of the team.
Developing innovative solutions and elaborating on design concepts.
Evaluating completed designs with supervisor and other technical groups, and making modifications necessary to achieve the most ideal design.
Developing, coordinating, and conducting test programs required to evaluate design work.
Basic Qualifications
A candidate must meet ALL of the below criteria. The candidate must:
Be a student who is enrolled full-time and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college/university and will be enrolled full time in Fall 2023.
Be majoring in or having majored in a Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related.
Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher (unofficial academic transcripts must be provided at time of application by uploading the documents to your application or profile)
Be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) for at least 10 weeks during summer 2023.
Be able to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite)
Preferred Qualifications for Analysis:
Demonstrated leadership experience, preferably on university sponsored design projects or clubs.
Experience with spacecraft or subsystem static/dynamic testing •Experience utilizing MATLAB
Minimum overall GPA of 3.7
Experience with at least one of the following Mechanical Analysis tools: NX FEMAP/NASTRAN, ABAQUS, HYPERMESH. (Equivalent spacecraft structural analysis tools may be considered on a case by case basis).
Ability to perform structural engineering tasks associated with analysis, design, and/or testing of structures.
Intern Pay Range for Dulles, VA:
Bachelor’s: $24.00 to $30.50 per hour
Master’s: $36.00 to $38.25 per hour
Intern Pay Range for Gilbert, AZ:
Bachelor’s: $20.75 to $26.25 per hour
Master’s: $31.00 to $33.00 per hour
At Northrop Grumman, our internship pay rates are standardized and take into account three main factors: the anticipated graduation date of the individual, the cost of labor of the geographic location, and whether the internship is considered technical or administrative.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
