Be a part of our team of Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) engineers within the System Engineering, Integration and Test (SEIT) group. The GNC Team supports all Northrop Grumman Armament System programs in the product areas of medium and large caliber ammunition, precision and guided projectiles, air defense systems, and miniature strike munitions.
We utilize the latest tools and processes available to generate guidance algorithms, controls, navigation filters, system architecture models and performance simulations. Our GNC engineering methods follow Model Based Engineering (MBE) principles utilizing MathWorks Modeling & Simulation (M&S) tools, within our digital engineering toolsets.
Interdisciplinary engagements with Mechanical, Electrical, Aeronautical, Systems, Test and other Engineers are critical. Collaborate and coordinate with key stakeholders across the SEIT group, technical/project lead engineers, program managers, and integrated product teams. Support GNC project execution, technical oversight and engineering reviews as required.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities of this position include development of innovative flight control architectures, physical and mathematical model generation, adaptation of GNC subsystems to airframe aerodynamic models, prototype system design, build, test, design verification and iterative model validation through test data analyses. These may also include:
Development of navigation algorithms, blending inertial measurements with GPS, magnetometers, odometers, and other signals of opportunity to form a high-fidelity navigation solution.
Support trade studies and develop algorithms, models, and simulations of GNC subsystems to satisfy top level system specifications and requirements.
Design GNC architectures through high fidelity, physics-based models (6-DOF) of major subsystems and components, including modeling of inertial measurements, GPS, Non-GPS aiding sources, Kalman filtering, and vehicle control.
Assist prototype build, test, and potential failure investigations to identify root causes and corrective actions that resolve observed system performance issues.
Please note this position may be filled at the Principal or Senior Principal level, depending on the candidate’s education and/or years of experience
Minimum Qualifications for Principal GNC Engineer:
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Aerospace or Systems Engineering.
5 years of Industrial work experience in model development, requirements definition, GNC algorithm analysis and synthesis and familiarity with both modern and classical control design techniques. 3 years of experience with Masters; 0 years with PhD.
Ability to travel for work 10% of the time.
Ability to obtain a DoD Secret (or higher) Security Clearance.
Minimum Qualifications for Sr. Principal GNC Engineer:
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Aerospace or Systems Engineering.
9 years of Industrial work experience in model development, requirements definition, GNC algorithm analysis and synthesis and familiarity with both modern and classical control design techniques. 7 years of experience with Masters; 0 years with PhD.
Ability to travel for work 10% of the time.
Ability to obtain a DoD Secret (or higher) Security Clearance.
Highly Desired Qualifications:
M.S. in Aerospace Engineering
An ideal candidate will have experience in development of Integrated GNC subsystems for precision guided weapons.
Knowledge and experience in one or more related disciplines such as: guidance laws, navigation, autopilots, actuation, seekers, and software development as well as MBE and M&S principles are desired.
Experience with MathWorks tools is also desired.
Salary Range: $96,600 USD – $144,900 USD
Salary Range 2: $119,784 USD – $179,676 USD
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
