Northrop Grumman have been providing a mobile secure communications product suite to Australian and international government and Defence agencies for nearly a decade. This product suite allows remote access to multiple classified network domains over a redundant array of public and private network bearers and focuses on simplicity of operation for maximum accessibility to users.
Due to internal promotions and increased product development demand, we are seeking 3 additional Software Engineers to design, implement, integrate and test software product features and interoperability.
Successful candidates will be embedded in a highly successful and experienced team of secure embedded systems and network security professionals practicing product development within the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). This diverse team fosters a strong sense of product ownership, driving high quality and satisfaction for our customers.
Key duties & responsibilities:
Write well thought out, documented, performant, reliable, maintainable code and unit tests;
Raise, close and manage defects using Atlassian JIRA;
Contribute to high quality development output using agile methodologies, working in cross-functional teams;
Work closely and collaboratively with like-minded professionals to solve problems and produce value for stakeholders;
Work with relevant areas of the business to ensure all released software meets quality requirements and the needs of our customers and users;
Utilise software version control with Git;
Grow and contribute to knowledge areas, related, but not limited to the software discipline, such as cyber security, system administration and systems engineering.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:
Ability to work and contribute in high-functioning, collaborative teams
Demonstrable knowledge of Linux based Operating Systems with a preference for Enterprise Linux distributions.
Demonstrable experience programming in languages such as Java, C, or C++ with the ability to write documented, reliable, maintainable code.
Knowledge of distributed computing and complex multi-tier applications, architectures.
Experience in working in a controlled development environment with strong version and configuration management control.
Understanding of the values, principles, events and artefacts from the Scrum framework.
Experience with GIT and Jira or similar tools
Effective written and oral communication, and productive interpersonal skills.
Must be an Australian citizen with eligibility to attain a Negative Vetting 1 Australian Government security clearance.
Desired experience
The following qualities are desirable but not required to be successful in the role. No one candidate is expected to have all of the desired experience, and Northrop Grumman offers ongoing training and development opportunities to expand employee skillsets.
Relevant tertiary qualifications, industry certifications in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
Demonstrable knowledge of Ansible or other Infrastructure as Code paradigms
Demonstrable experience in scripting in languages such as Python/Perl/Bash.
Experience with TCP/IP networking and security protocols.
Experience with the Linux kernel, drivers, Secure/Trusted Boot or Splunk Enterprise.
Experience and knowledge of Embedded systems.
Experience configuring the Linux networking stack.
Experience with Continuous Integration, Continuous Test and DevSecOps practices, principles and values.
Note: As a Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian Citizens. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) are applicable, as such your nationality may be a factor in determining your suitability for this role.
