Northwestern Mutual Looking for Senior Software Engineer at Greater Syracuse-Auburn Area Full Time

To support our growing team, we are looking for a Senior Software Engineer. You’re the right fit if you try your best and there’s not a problem you can’t solve! We need an experienced engineer who is passionate about writing performance server-side code and that won’t shy away from the client-side.

Our team is building out tools to help our clients prosper financially. We provide features like account aggregation, net worth calculations, budgeting, and spending insights. Our APIs power some of the core journeys for our client mobile app and website, as well as our best in class planning experience.

You will be working with a full stack agile team of back-end and front-end developers, building applications that are deployed to the cloud. The work will involve every aspect of the SDLC, including building, testing, deploying, and monitoring the apps in our AWS and Kubernetes environment.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Demonstrates technical leadership to team.
• Establishes, aggregates, and shares team standards and best practices within department.
• Applies working relationships across teams within their division.
• Assesses and provides solutions to system-wide architectural problems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
• 4-5 years professional experience required
• 3-5+ years of experience working with modern engineering tools, languages and practices
• Proven critical thinking, ownership approach and continuous learning
• Experience developing solutions using agile methods
• Mentor for the team and department
• Advanced abilities in one or more technical platforms
• Capable of communicating between product, engineering, and the business
• Manages own time to meet objectives
• Ability to perform peer reviews on code and design
• Solid understanding of design patterns and architecture

Nice-to-have

• TDD and testing frameworks such as Jest and MochaJS
• Understanding of architectural concepts like Domain-Driven Design and Event Based systems
• AWS technologies like S3, SQS, and OpenSearch
• Worked with any account aggregation providers like Plaid, MX, or Yodlee

Skills-Proficiency Level

• JavaScript ES6 – Advanced
• Node and Express – Advanced
• React and Redux – Intermediate
• Sass / Styled-Components – Intermediate
• Java – Basic/Intermediate
• SQL – Intermediate
• Familiarity with Docker and containerization
• Good understanding of GIT and source code management
• Familiarity with cloud providers like AWS and Azure is a plus
• Familiarity with Authorization and Authentication is a plus

Compensation Range

Pay Range – Start:

$112,560.00

Pay Range – End

$160,800.00
