The Department

The NWP farm is home to both a cattle herd as well as a sheep flock. The farm provides support to Agricultural programing as well as providing research opportunities.

The Role

Casual farm students are required to assist with animal husbandry including calving and lambing. Specific duties include:

• monitoring and moving livestock as required,
• delivering or assisting in the birth of livestock,
• working with newborn animals, caring, feeding, bedding and cleaning of pens and facilities,
• feeding and watering,
• assist in repairs to farm equipment and infrastructure,
• other farm related duties may be required.

Must have high school diploma or equivalent qualification and farming experience is preferred. Necessary skills and attributes to be successful in this role include:

• be in good physical condition with the ability to lift 25 kilograms to undertake manual labor,
• ability to work a flexible schedule & work in unpredictable weather conditions,
• must be mature, responsible and a self-starter who may have to work unsupervised but also have the ability to take direction,
• assist in light mechanical repairs and infrastructure maintenance,
• preference given to an individual with experience working in agriculture with some livestock experience,
• applicant should have a current class 5 driver’s license, able to maintain hygiene of the facility and environment.
