About our Role:

We have multiple permanent opportunities for Software Engineers to join our collaborative Geospatial team.

You will have the opportunity to lead the design and development of a variety of exciting software projects, including web and geospatial applications, backend data processing and analytics frameworks, cloud dev-ops platforms, and mobile applications. You can expect to engage with a range of clients across a number of industry sectors including emergency services, land management and defence.

Your typical day could look like:

• Code development for UIs, API’s, back-end components, and data ETL processes for solutions deployed to web, desktop, and cloud environments
• Supporting technical requirements elaboration and creation of user stories and acceptance criteria
• Developing automated unit and integration tests
• Working under Agile (scrum) development and release processes in a team environment
• Contributing to the preparation of technical documentation and software architecture documents
• Engaging with clients and stakeholders to demonstrate work in progress and receive feedback
• Supporting technical pre-sales activities, estimation of services work and technical input into business development and bid activities
• Sharing knowledge and mentoring junior staff to develop and improve the Nova Systems software development capability
• Contribute to initiatives to standardize our software development approach

What we would like from you:

• A bachelor’s degree in software engineering, information technology, computer science (or equivalent)
• 4-8 years hands-on experience in a software development consulting environment or internal software development team
• Broad general ICT experience across software development, infrastructure, and cloud technologies
• Strong software development and coding skills using modern languages (e.g. Javascript, .NET), frameworks (e.g. AngularJS) and database technologies (RDBMS, NoSQL)
• Experience in the practical application of the Agile development methodology through requirements analysis, backlog management, sprint planning, testing, and release
• Experience using scripting languages (such as Python) to customise applications and automate processes
• Working knowledge of the deployment of custom software solutions to cloud infrastructure

We are looking for candidate who are proactive with a consultative approach having the ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment. You should have the ability to understand complex processes and information workflows while being comfortable using configuration management tools and testing frameworks.

Desirable requirements:

• Experience with commercial or Open-Source geospatial platforms such as ESRI, FME, Mapbox, Geoserver, Leaflet, or Google
• Knowledge of devops and contemporary cloud automation processes and tools (such as serverless, CI/CI pipelines, infrastructure as code)
• Certification in relevant standards and software, such as the Scrum process and AWS/Azure accreditation
