At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga | Ministry of Education, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whānau.

We help shape the policies, settings and performance of the education system for early learning, schooling and tertiary. We do this by building relationships and understanding the needs of those who receive our services.

About our group and team

Te Pae Aronui was established within Te Mahau as part of a wider change to provide the education sector with support and services that are more locally responsive, more accessible, and more integrated. As part of Te Mahau, Te Pae Aronui provides the service design, data insights, regulatory functions, learning and other support our three frontline Te Mahau regional teams, and ākonga rely on. It includes what was previously National Office Sector Enablement and Support (SE&S), Parent Information and Community Intelligence (PICI) and Evidence, Data and Knowledge (EDK) teams, excluding the Chief Economist position.

Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role

In this opportunity, you’ll be joining the Community Partnerships team within our ESOL, Migrant, Refugee and International Education team. This a high-performing team with a culture of constructive open-minded debate and working together to make an impact.

Reporting to the Team Leader Community Partnerships, the Senior Advisor will lead and support the design, establishment, and delivery of the Ethnic Communities Learning Hubs (Learning Hubs) initiative within their region. These hubs support learner achievement through educationally powerful partnerships with ethnic communities’ whānau as they navigate the education system.

The key priorities of this role are:

• Establishing effective, trusting relationships with ethnic and culturally diverse communities’ ensuring their voices and views are reflected in the development of the Learning Hubs
• Supporting the co-design, establishment, and implementation of the Learning Hub initiative
• Contributing to the design and development of innovative, engaging communication approaches and material to support the Learning Hubs and ethnic whanau
• Seeking opportunities to grow sector knowledge and capability to meet the needs of learners, parents and whānau from diverse ethnic, cultural, and faith-based communities
• Supporting the Team Leader to monitor and report on the effectiveness of the Learning Hubs initiative
• Understanding and applying Te Tiriti o Waitangi based approaches and tangata whenuatanga to the Learning Hubs initiative

You will bring expertise in:

• Building and maintaining successful relationships with ethnic and culturally diverse families and communities to support education aspirations
• Influencing and working with others to implement support and change initiatives and achieve outcomes
• Understanding of issues of education for ethnic and culturally diverse ākonga and whanau and the importance of identity, language and culture in education success

You will also offer:

• An understanding of the New Zealand education system, particularly the compulsory sector and the provision of learning supports in the education system
• Ability to deliver to agreed deadlines
• Experience in leading and managing projects
