Industrial Officer 

Te Waipounamu – based in Ōtautahi (Christchurch)

NZEI Te Riu Roa is looking for a new industrial officer to be based in our Ōtautahi (Christchurch) office.

In a typical day you might be advising members on their tactical options in an employment dispute, advocating for members’ legal entitlements, and representing members in formal settings such as the ERA or Education Council hearings,

The work is varied and fast-paced.  You will need to be knowledgeable about employment law and advocacy and be able to work under pressure and manage competing priorities.

You will be supporting NZEI members so you will need to understand the work of unions.  You must enjoy helping people, be empathetic and be able to quickly build rapport.  You will need a good sense of humour, diplomacy, tact, and sound judgment. A good telephone manner is essential.

NZEI Te Riu Roa is the dynamic and innovative union representing the interests of 47,000 education sector workers in New Zealand. 

An understanding of, and commitment to upholding the principles of, Te Tiriti o Waitangi is essential, and experience/skill in te reo and tikanga Māori are desirable.
