Oakton Community College Hiring for Biology Support Lab Assistant at Skokie, IL Full Time

Basic Function and Responsibility:
Under general supervision, plan and direct the delivery of instructional support services available in the Biology and Medical Laboratory Technology labs.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate lab preps, use and maintenance of supplies, equipment and educational materials.

Review lab procedures, techniques and equipment with instructors as needed.

Supervise delivery of lab preparations for classes such as Microbiology, General Biology and Medical Laboratory Technology.

With the assistance from the Science Lab paraprofessional, prepare lab make-up work and provide instructional materials for use in the learning lab.

Supervise the safety and security of the lab facilities, i.e., Des Plaines labs and the greenhouse, including holidays and break periods.

Provide budgetary input to the Science Lab Paraprofessional for equipment and supplies, provide inventory reports for administrators, and collect information and data related to the latest techniques in laboratory procedures.

Interview, hire, train and monitor the work activities of student employees.

Assist instructors in demonstration lab procedures as needed.

Perform any other job-related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
Qualifications and Working Conditions:
An Associate’s degree preferably in Biology or Medical Laboratory Technology or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be obtained is required.

Two years related laboratory experience is preferred.

May be exposed to chemical solutions. Must be able to safely and correctly prepare lab preps.

Requires significant ability to mentally attend and visually concentrate on a significant amount of detail work.

Must be able to exchange information of factual matters and understand and transmit instruction.

May require moderate lifting of more than ten pounds.

Supervision Received:
Administrative supervision is received from the designated dean and functional supervision is received from the Science Lab Assistant/Biology.

Supervision Exercised:
Functional supervision is exercised over four or more student employees.

HOURS: Monday – Thursday 4:15 pm – 10:30 pm

SALARY: $22.54 per hour – Starting salary may change due to the completion of staff negotiations.
