Old Dominion University Hiring for Online Operations Manager at Norfolk, VA Full Time
Manage and administer the day-to-day operations of the control rooms, master control room, and other origination systems for distribution and quality control monitoring of all synchronous live Distance Learning programs/events and distance learning programs and events for external clients, including video conferencing systems and other needed technologies. Schedule, organize, and allocate human and technical resources, including the creation of master delivery schedules. Facilitate a supportive customer interface for instructors, students, faculty, and staff. Provide operational support for all Distance Learning synchronous video systems.
Type of Recruitment Knowledge, skills and abilities
Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and techniques of managing multiple simultaneous live distance and distributed education programs and events. Considerable knowledge of the principles of supervision, human resources, project management, and scheduling of resources in a Network Operations Center or other technologically based environment. Considerable knowledge of reviewing and evaluating the work of direct reporting employees. Skills: Considerable hands-on and theoretical knowledge of the use and operation of video cameras, archiving systems, broadcast-level audio, remote and editing equipment, including working knowledge of 2-way videoconferencing, and Internet video streaming technologies including, videoconferencing codecs, video conferencing bridges, Voice over Internet Protocols (VoIP), and video stream encoders. Abilities: Demonstrated ability to plan multiple production activities and allocate human and equipment resources in the most cost-effective manner; supervise production staff; work with a variety of faculty and outside agency clients to determine client needs and operational support requirements. Develop and modify production procedures and policies to reflect changing operational processes and new technology applications and communicate these procedures and processes effectively with ODU staff and external clientele. Demonstrate ability to write and present proposals, schedules, and reports that describe project goals, objectives, and subsequent assessments/outcomes. Demonstrate experience in a customer support intensive environment. Display a strong ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems and the ability to distinguish between low and high priority activities.

Extensive experience in live video, televised broadcast, or live distance learning production in education, government, or business distributed learning programs using, videoconferencing, Internet video streaming, or other means of communication technology. Considerable experience in rapid and accurate assessment of technical difficulties requiring immediate attention and solution to assure minimum interruption of signal deliveries. Considerable supervisory experience.
Preferred knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience, licensure, certification
High level of success in managing and supervising an Operations center working five or more days/nights a week and rotating shift scheduled basis for origination of and receipt of professional quality programming using a variety of delivery modes. Higher education experience. Bachelor’s Degree with major studies in technology management, engineering technology, communications, instructional design/technology, or a related field. An equivalent combination of training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge, skills and abilities may substitute for this education and experience.
