About the role

A site reliability engineer at Omniscient is responsible for ensuring the availability of our services to customers and charting the future of our deployment and automated testing processes. As we expand into new markets and grow our customer base, we need help to ensure that we provide the best platform experience to our users so that they can provide the best care to their patients.

We work with amazing and cutting edge tools that excite us – Kubernetes, Argo, AWS, Istio, Terraform, Ansible, and Prometheus to name a few. We want an engineer who is as excited about this ecosystem as we are.

Since we currently have a small platform team but will be growing aggressively over the next year, we seek a candidate who can not only independently contribute but is excited about trailblazing team practices and structures that will lay a foundation for future success.

Key Requirements

• Experience in Kubernetes and Docker ecosystems
• Experience with best practices for logging, monitoring, and alerting. Prior background working with structured logging, Prometheus, and Grafana preferred
• History of working with AWS services, especially EC2, S3, VPC, Coudwatch, and IAM
• Strong written communication skills – excellence in technical documentation and architecture presentations
• Proficiency in networking concepts – DNS, routing, TCP and UDP network protocols
• Previous experience as a software engineer
• Experience with NodeJS and Python runtimes
• Preferred – prior experience with Ansible, Terraform, Helm, database experience with MongoDB and Postgres, and experience with HIPAA and GDPR compliance

Responsibilities:

• Help grow our usage of Kubernetes best practices in service mesh (Istio), deployment patterns, integration with CI/CD, monitoring and alerting, security. As the k8s ecosystem changes, we want SREs that are excited about learning new things and challenge themselves to mastery
• Prepare for the worst: build and conduct experiments that induce failure to see how our systems respond, and translate those learnings into updates to our platform and practices to achieve greater resiliency
• When incidents do occur, you will serve at the front-line of our response – restoring availability, running post-mortems, and then working to ensure such incidence does not repeat itself
• Work closely with the application development team to improve upon our testing, release, and deployment processes so that we arrive at something engineers and operators are truly proud of
• Study our data access patterns and help optimize performance across database, object retrieval, and RPC calls
• Design the future of our platform – as we expand into new products, we will need to take on new technologies and architectural patterns. We want an SRE who is excited about exploring trade-offs and opinionated about the ways in which we should grow in order to maintain a world-class platform
• Work with the business to develop and measure Service Level Objectives to make sure that our engineering and business worlds align
• Build internal tools for debugging, performance analysis, compliance, and enforcement of code and security best practices
