PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The primary role of the Inorganic Analytical Advanced Scientist is to drive the labaAEURA(TM)s continuous improvement in the technology of X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) and its use in analysis of mined geologic raw materials and produced glasses.a, The successful applicant will lead development of new test methods to advance the inorganic chemical characterization of raw materials and glass.a, They will actively monitor developments in state-of-the-art characterization technology for future implementation. Success in this role will require building and maintaining robust external networks such as ASTM committees, instrument vendors, and university connections.a, This role will lead and/or participate in global innovation projects across Owens CorningaAEURA(TM)s three business units. The Inorganic Analytical Advanced Scientist is also an Inorganic Analytical expert who strengthens the scientific competencies within the lab.a, They will have in-depth technical knowledge of the Analytical Laboratory capabilities so that they may communicate clearly with their customer base and work with others across departments to address technical business challenges.a, Success will come to those who also have focus on caring for others, inclusion, collaboration, teamwork, transparency, and mentoring.a,

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Demonstrates a commitment to safety and housekeeping

• Ensures rigorous compliance to standard safety procedures and OC corporate policies
• Empowers employees to take responsibility for their own safety and for those around them

Metrics:

• Participates in monthly safety meetings and trainings, audits, and safety days.
• Manage SOPs, job-hazard assessments (JHA), and management of change (MOC) for new instruments, methods development, and implementations.

Technical Vision and Execution

• Global expert for Owens Corning on XRF technology.
• Lead testing, calibrations, troubleshooting, and new method development.
• Have a strong working knowledge of instruments and methods utilized in the lab to direct and answer issues as they arise.
• Collaborate with the innovation leaders within all three business units to ensure use of statistical data analysis to drive decisions.
• Serve as an inorganic technical consultant to business units to characterize raw materials and glass chemistries.a,
• Ensure literature survey of latest technological advances in analytical instrumentation and methods about geological materials, glass, ceramic, and alloy.
• Procure and develop technology to broaden the lab capabilities.
• Develop outside networks and connections to strengthen the technical knowledge and depth of the lab.
• Lead project teams to develop innovative methods and incorporate new technologies into the lab.

Metrics:

• Lead XRF calibrations/methods/instrumentation within the lab for analysis and reporting.
• Validate XRF calibrations at satellite Owens Corning sites and vendor labs.

• Technical reports written for all test method development, new equipment implementation, and state of the art technology evaluation.
• Design and drive innovation projects that will meet the goals of the analytical lab and business units.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualificationsa, a, a, a,

• MasteraAEURA(TM)s degree or equivalent experience in Chemistry, Geology, or related field of study
• 3+ years experience in a research and development environment
• XRF calibration and methods development expertise

Preferred Qualification

• PhD in Chemistry, Geology or related field of study

Experience, Knowledge & Skills

• Understanding of inorganic materials
• Understanding of mined raw materials

• Demonstrated Project Management skills
• Proficient use of statistics
• Proficiency in software such as MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) is required
