How You’ll Make An Impact

The Music Ingestion team is looking for a software engineer to join us. For this position, you will be working with data pipelines that involve numerous microservices. You will develop new services in the cloud and optimize existing ones. These services help organize and annotate the metadata & assets we need to provide music on the client apps. Our team works on the tools to efficiently consume and organize the deluge of music delivered to Pandora every day.

What You’ll Do

Ingestion of the data delivered by the music providers is where we start. It is a high volume parallelized process that measures storage space in petabytes. Then we develop the internal sources of truth that many teams depend on. Data science, collections and music analysts all rely on our services providing the timely processing of all new deliveries and updates. Our team also collects and organizes 3rd party data to link it to the correct tracks and albums. All of this data provides a rich experience to the user when they play music on Pandora.

This is primarily a backend services role. We have python and Java based services. We are looking for someone that has solid talent in Java. Experience with Python is a definite plus. The java services we have on the team help utilize the data that is processed by our (python) ingestion service. We work with data science teams and music curators to help categorize, organize and refine a collection of over 100 million tracks.

Help us create new services in dockerized containers. Re-imagine existing services, to run in AWS or our internal Hashicorp containerized services. Expand the metadata we can deliver on each album, track and artist. Work with a great team of experienced engineers and expand the data we collect and how we utilize it. We would love to mentor you and grow your skill set while you help our team iterate and expand on the services we have.

We work with music, it is an interesting medium to do software development. Our mission is to deliver accurate resources and metadata to the client facing services.

• Coding in Java. Establishing new microservices and augmenting existing ones. We use Spring, Java 11, Python 3.x, Postgres, Kafka, Redis and RESTful APIs. Some projects utilize clouded DBs and services.
• Develop services using native AWS services like Aurora, Kinesis, DynamoDB
• Analyze requirements and technical specifications, and implement assigned development tasks using various technologies.
• Learn about the overall software stack and the software components that make up our pipeline.
• Participate in agile ceremonies including scrums, sprint planning sessions and sprint reviews.
• Document all technical design, code, build and release procedures.
• Get up to speed on existing services in the pipeline as well as help make new ones.

What You’ll Need

• BA, or BS Computer Science OR equivalent experience
• 2+ years of development experience with a high level language like Java or Python
• 2+ years of experience working with SQL based datastores
• 1+ years of experience building and deploying REST based API services
• 1+ GCP or AWS experience (service creation and deployment)
• Multi server architecture with api based services
• Parallel task processing at a large scale
• Solid unit and integration test development to back the fantastic code you write
• Creating clean PRs and taking part in code reviews.
• Creating the right script to patch a large dataset.
• Creating solutions to solve the challenges of running a complex pipeline.
• Kafka/Kinesis based signaling to microservices
• Postgres (experience with other RDBMS is fine)
• Java Spring Boot & Data
• Metrics services like: Prometheus/Grafana/ELK Stack (or other service reliability tools)
• Containerized Services (Nomad, Consul, Vault, Kubernetes, Docker, ECS)
• Developing on Native AWS services like Aurora, Kinesis, Event Bridge and DynamoDB
• Interpersonal skills and ability to interact and work with staff at all levels.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

At SiriusXM, we carefully consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation, including your background and experience. These considerations can cause your compensation to vary. We expect the base salary for this position to be in the range of $110,000 to $183,375 and will depend on your skills, qualifications, and experience. Additionally, this role might be eligible for discretionary short-term and long-term incentives. We encourage all interested candidates to apply.
