Peko Produce is Western Canada’s first online grocery store for “peculiar” & surplus goods. We’re on a mission to reduce food waste and promote accessible, affordable food. Why?:

Our vision is to become Canada’s leading online grocery for reducing food waste. We’re looking for a proactive and passionate Warehouse Manager to help Peko make a lasting impact on our broken food system.

What a Good Fit Looks Like:

Required:

• Goal-oriented and owner mindset. We are a young company that is growing rapidly. You’ll be responsible for overseeing the operations and quality control that are detrimental to the company’s long-term success.
• Quick problem-solver with an eye for details and a passion to change the way Canadians shop and eat.
• Customer-obsessed and passionate about general quality, cleanliness, and organization.
• Strong work ethic and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Available to work weekends and holidays.
• Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
• Ability to lift 20 pounds.

Nice to Have:

• Ideally have 1+ years of experience in a similar position and have sound knowledge of procedures and best practices in the fresh produce supply chain.
• Previous experience working as or with buyers and suppliers, produce and supply chain experience is highly preferred but not required.
• Understanding of businesses with recurring revenue models and/or consumer-facing goods and services is highly preferred but not required.

• You need to be told exactly what to do. We provide foundational support, but we are a small team with limited bandwidth, so we provide you the freedom to lead impactful projects. Your internship is what you make of it, so we suggest making it count!

• You don’t eat vegetables. Then why are you here…? Seriously, go eat some veggies!

Responsibilities

Friday (~1 hours in the morning/early afternoon)

• Pick up and transport fresh produce to Peko’s cold warehouse.
• Receive, restock and/or reorganize incoming materials at our storage facility on a need-based basis.

Saturday (~3-6 hours)

• Oversee our Production Facility every weekend, which consists of 6+ packers with a conveyorized production process to ensure high-quality products.
• Coordinate and approve incoming materials by confirming specifications, conducting a visual test, communicating the required adjustments to our packers/suppliers, rejecting and returning unacceptable materials.
• Perform inventory control, contingency planning, and emergency sourcing as needed – supply fluctuations can happen!
• Ensuring that food safety and GMP’s are consistently being adhered to; company SOPs and policies are followed, and health & safety requirements are being met. Conduct incident investigations and facilitate corrective actions with our repacking partner if needed.
• Assist our Marketing team in photoshoots at our packing facility on a need-based basis.

Sunday (~2 hours in the morning)

• Coordinate with our delivery couriers to ensure timeliness, efficiency, and accuracy.

Other details

• Hours: 8-15 hours per week.
• Start date: August 13, 2022.
• Contract: 6-month contract with a possibility of extension, conditional upon performance.
