JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
As Penn State celebrates the conclusion of its historically successful fundraising campaign , A Greater Penn State for 21st Century Excellence, a Director of Donor Relations and Special Events is needed to support the Division of Development and Alumni Relations.

As the leader of Penn State’s Office of Donor Relations and Special Events, you can play an integral role in one of the most respected and successful fundraising operations in the country and contribute to the land-grant mission and future strength of Penn State.
In this position, an experienced donor relations professional and effective team manager will serve as the strategic lead in developing and promoting the stewardship of the University’s prospects and donors while guiding a staff of twenty in creating and maintaining exceptional donor experiences. The successful candidate will serve as a liaison with and resource for leadership in the Office of University Development and across Penn State to address strategic stewardship priorities at both the University and unit level to advance a culture of philanthropy and secure support from the larger Penn State
community.
The Director of Donor Relations and Special Events also partners with other External Engagement offices and with college, campus, and unit colleagues to ensure consistency in approach to event execution, donor stewardship and recognition, endowment management, and donor experience.
Reporting to the Executive Director of External Engagement, this position oversees a team of event, endowment, and stewardship professionals that includes event planners, stewardship officers, and endowment specialists, and office manager. In addition, this position will:
Partner with other External Engagement offices and with college, campus, and unit colleagues to ensure consistency in approach to event execution, donor stewardship and recognition, endowment management, and donor experience
Articulate Penn State’s needs, ambitions, and values, including diversity, equity, and inclusion, through excellent informal and formal communications
Manage a volunteer cohort specific to university stewardship efforts
Oversee the creation and management of the office’s budget and operations, including the development of an annual business plan and associated budget
Some evening and weekend work is required
This position typically requires a bachelor’s degree or higher and seven years or more of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Master’s degree preferred. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. The successful candidate will also have:
A track record of effective collaboration and communications, with special consideration given to experience in donor relations and recognition
A dedication to and understanding of the skills required to build relationships with diverse communities
