From grain to glass, many of the world’s best loved Irish whiskeys are created at Midleton Distillery, our 160 acre site in Co. Cork. Here, we produce all of the pot still and grain whiskey that makes up Irish Distillers’ six Irish whiskey families. From the Garden Still House containing the world’s largest operating copper pot stills to our experimental hub at the Micro Distillery, Midleton Distillery is a world leader in whiskey production.
As a global company we are always looking for great talent, and here at Midleton Distillery we are now delighted to offer an apprenticeship in the trade of Electrical and Instrumentation Technician (L6).
What’s involved
You will spend the “On the Job” element of your training with us here at our state of the art Distillery in Midleton, a Tier 1 COMAH site. You will work closely with, and be supported by, our highly skilled maintenance team who will like nothing more than sharing their experience with you in what is a unique and exciting work environment. You will then complete the subsequent “Off the Job” phases with SOLAS, where you will progress your learning towards a recognised national qualification.
Reporting to the Electrical and Instrumentation Team Lead, some of the activities you will be involved during your “on the job” training include:
- Participating in a maintenance team of multiple disciplines operating in a cutting edge automated technical environment.
- Carrying out routine maintenance procedures in a safe and efficient manner and in accordance with the preventative maintenance schedule.
- Responding to breakdowns and assisting the maintenance team as required.
- Supporting the annual shutdown as required.
- Reading and understanding electrical drawings and P&IDs.
- Learning calibration procedures on pressure transmitters, level transmitters, temperature transmitters, flow meters and liquid analysis meters such as ammonia, TOC and aluminium.
- Working with the project team on the commissioning of new equipment.
- Ensuring the computerised maintenance management system is utilised and operated correctly, reducing down time of plant and equipment.
What are we looking for?
You will have a passion for technology and be able to demonstrate why Midleton Distillery is an employer of choice for you.
You will need to have a strong aptitude for problem solving and attention to detail, and we are also looking for demonstrated evidence of logical and numerical reasoning capability. In addition you will need to have completed your Leaving Cert and achieved a minimum O3 standard in Maths.
You will need to be flexible, tenacious and collaborative by nature. You will also have the ability to perform in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
