Phoenix is looking to appoint a motivated, resilient and tenacious Education Welfare Officer, who is passionate about supporting students, ensuring they have the opportunity to thrive and to achieve the best possible outcomes. The postholder will work closely with students, families, school staff, external agencies and statutory bodies to identify and overcome barriers to learning – particularly with regard to attendance and persistent absenteeism – and will be expected to use a range of strategies and legal mechanisms to ensure attendance.
The role will require you to carry out the School’s statutory responsibilities, enforcing relevant legislation in order to safeguard and promote the welfare and life chances of our students. This includes the initiation of penalty notices, preparation of Court papers and possible attendance in Court to give evidence, as necessary.
As Manager of our Attendance Team, the postholder will be involved in ongoing planning and evaluation to ensure the service continues to meet Government targets for school attendance.
In addition to a good standard of basic education, the successful candidate will ideally have obtained a relevant level 4 standard qualification and must evidence significant experience of working with families in an education setting and of multi-agency working. They will demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of relevant education legislation and an ability to prepare professional documentation that would be compliant in legal proceedings. Applicants must be confident and authoritative, have a proven ability to persuade, influence and negotiate and be able to communicate effectively and appropriately in a variety of situations.
Phoenix is committed to the protection and safety of its students. An enhanced DBS will be required before commencement in the post.
