Your day to day

You will be pairing with colleagues and client engineers to build, refactor or rewrite software products end to end. Using Test-Driven Development, Domain Driven Design, Evolutionary Architecture, Continuous Integration and Delivery among other methodologies, you will help your team to build, deploy, run and improve production software daily.

Together with product managers, designers and other engineers you will work in autonomous, cross-disciplinary product teams which solve problems together. In a team, you will reflect regularly on how to continuously improve team collaboration and the product you are building.

As a consultant who coaches on-the-job, you will build a shared understanding of technical trade-offs, risks and direction with other engineers and client stakeholders. Mentoring with empathy and kindness, you will help other engineers understand the ins and outs & pros and cons of principles, practices and patterns applied in modern software development.

On your first day, you will have

• Built and maintained production code as a software engineer using automated testing, Continuous Integration & Delivery for at least 3 years

• A strong, structured approach to communication and desire to work in a pair programming environment

• Either experience with or desire to learn (and later coach) Test-Driven Development (TDD)

• Solid understanding of computer science topics such as security, networking, data structures & algorithms either through a computer science degree or equivalent experience

Not required, but bonus points if you have:

• Understanding of common approaches to build and architect web applications end to end: REST / GraphQL APIs, Single Page Applications (SPA), Modular Monoliths, Microservices, etc.

• Experience with specific cloud environments or technologies such as AWS, GCP, Kubernetes

• Experience in training and mentoring other engineers

• Experience leading a product or development team

• Experience with managing and evolving SQL or NoSQL storage solutions in cloud environments

• Experience modernising existing systems and processes in an organisation
