Sport Hawke’s Bay, which sits under the umbrella of Sport NZ, has an enviable reputation as a highly successful regional sports trust. Their vision and purpose is to enhance the health and wellbeing of Hawke’s Bay by influencing, enabling and supporting our communities to be more physically active. The stretch and span of this charitable trust reaches right from our tamariki and rangatahi through to our elderly – helping to ensure equitable access when it comes to our communities being involved in play, sport and recreation.

They are in good health from a funding, team culture and community engagement perspective, with a board ready to take this to the next level. After many years at the helm their highly effective CE is moving on and as a consequence, we are in search for a new leader to take the reins and ensure Sport Hawke’s Bay’s ongoing success. This leadership role will see you at the forefront of contact, communication and inclusion with key stakeholders spanning iwi, local and regional sports organisations, schools, community groups and councils from Central Hawke’s Bay to Wairoa.

Reporting to the Board, the Chief Executive will lead Sport Hawke’s Bay’s vision and strategic plan and steer a highly engaged team to ensure ongoing success. Your remit will include overseeing strategic planning and implementation, and assuring effective funding streams and partnerships, community awareness and key stakeholder engagement, as well as ensuring effective achievement of program delivery milestones.

The successful candidate will have held relevant leadership roles, and must have empathy, passion and commitment to the sport and recreation sector. You will have a collaborative and highly engaged communication style. You must be commercially aware. An appreciation and commitment to Te Ao Māori is crucial. Political astuteness, iwi connectivity and the ability to relate to the nuances and challenges associated with community organisations will be important. A proven record in maintaining, developing, and enhancing networks and connections with key stakeholders and community leaders is essential.
