Qualifications

• A valid Michigan teaching certificate with endorsements in Biology (DA) and Chemistry (DC), with the demonstrated ability to teach a wide range of students, both in terms of their academic abilities, as well as backgrounds.
• NCA/AdvancEd/Cognia accreditation standards met to teach biology and chemistry.
• Federal standards met to be highly qualified in biology and chemistry.
• Experience in successfully working cooperatively with colleagues and administrators.

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate degree in the area of science with a minimum of five years of successful teaching experience.

• A valid Michigan teaching certificate with the DX (Science) or DI (Integrated Science) endorsement.

   Expectations

• Use multiple teaching strategies to meet the learning needs of different students.

• Work with colleagues to continue to implement, to assess and to meet our school-improvement goals.
• Work with colleagues effectively and cooperatively in the science department to continue to develop,to improve curriculum and performance, to build and to support the International Baccalaureate program, as well as to build student support and interest. .
• Work cooperatively and collaboratively with other colleagues, such as special-education teachers and counselors, to serve as part of a team to support at-risk students.
• Have experience and willingness to be involved in Activities or Athletics or both.
• Communicate well with colleagues, students and families.
• Possess strong organization and technology skills.
• Selects and requisitions instructional materials; maintains inventory records.
• Cooperates in school-wide supervision of students during out of classroom activities.
• Participates in faculty and/or District committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
• Possess strong organization and technology skills.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Regular and consistent attendance.
• Must have knowledge of and comply with the policies and procedures contained in the Portage Public Schools Employee Handbook.
