We are a property management company looking for an administrative assistant who will operate our new satellite office in Sioux City. You will work remotely with the general manager to do anything and everything necessary to help run the company, and specifically to represent and oversee the company in Sioux City. Duties are very broad and include things such as real estate acquisition research, interacting with governmental organizations on behalf of the company, employee management, making arrangements with contractors, payroll, book keeping, errands, supply purchasing, document filing, producing reports, making phone calls, etc. You will be primarily responsible for running the company itself rather than working in the tenant facing side of the business.
The starting salary is 40k/year with 2 weeks paid time off. After good performance during applicable initial periods, a benefits package will be available including employer paid healthcare and an employer matched retirement account, and an inflation indexed raise schedule will be initiated (designed to always raise pay in an amount that exceeds inflation based on the CPI index).
Most job listings say things like that the applicant is expected to work independently, creatively problem solve, and deal with varied situations. It is difficult to express the extent to which these traits are uniquely required in this position, to an extent beyond what most people could handle. Before applying please carefully consider how you would respond to being faced with problems outside your experience and being expected to solve them on your own, without a supervisor or a manual to tell you what to do. There will be a lot of times where you need to just figure it out, through Google, phone calls, etc. This is not because the general manager is apathetic in his supervisory role, it is because you will often be presented with new and unique problems that he doesn’t have experience with either, and it is your duty to solve such problems. In other words, in this company, you are the one who figures things out.
Since this position requires creatively handling unique situations as they come up, there is not a specific degree, certification, or work experience profile we are looking for. What we would like to see is demonstration of the work ethic, creativity, and intelligence that a position like this requires. In our experience, a very high recent GPA correlates well with these abilities, whether from college or high school, whether or not still enrolled, and whether or not a degree was obtained. Recent employment in a field with similar demands, and an excellent employer reference, would also constitute good evidence of an applicant’s ability to perform well in this position. These are just some examples of what might demonstrate what we are looking for, we are open minded.
We would consider part time employment with a flexible schedule for the right applicant, if desired.
