Position Summary

The Laboratory Associate I is responsible for testing within the Physical Laboratory and environmental testing. Responsible for sample coordinating and processing, material sampling, retain sample, and general Quality support. The employee complies with company policies, procedures, GDP, cGMP, OSHA, Federal, State and Local regulations.

Essential Functions:
Physical Laboratory Functions

• Perform Physical Laboratory tasks including, but not limited to sample preparation, organoleptic testing, fill volume, bulk density, sample pH analysis, moisture analysis, etc.
• Collect water and perform quarterly environmental testing.
• Sample materials and ensures good handling practices.
• Participates in material sampling or additional testing in relation to NCMR’s, AQL’s, CAPA’s and OOS’s, when applicable.
• Environmental monitoring: perform testing, maintain results, and file forms/results as needed.
• Retain materials appropriately.
• Maintain orderliness in lab.
• Maintain GDP for documentation in lab notebooks, lab reports, Quality Forms, etc.
• Ensures accuracy of equipment used through calibration or other means and perform calibration checks as required.
• Read and interpret Routing Sheets, QC Procedures, and Specifications for all incoming products.
• Wash soiled lab ware and properly dispose of lab waste.

Sample Processing Functions:

• Receive and log sample in preparation for analysis. Review sample and any attached documentation and create sample routing and submission forms and enter information into sample testing database.
• Contact contract laboratories, when necessary, to obtain and clarify missing or unclear information to ensure that test code, and sample contents are accurate.
• Create material reference sample documentation and deliver to laboratory.
• Prioritize sample log and processing based on schedule provided by supervisor.
• Ensure sample identity and integrity is maintained.
• Prepare sample to be shipped to other testing facilities when necessary. Complete appropriate documentation and file General office skills are useful to complete faxing, filing, and other related duties for the department, accordingly.

Material Sampling Functions:

• Collect products samples for testing and retention and ensure good handling practices.
• Read and interpret routing sheets, quality control procedures, and specification for product.
• Inspect raw materials and packaging components for conformance to establish specifications.

Sample Retain Functions:

• Check-in/out retain samples in the corresponding log.
• Distribute and organize the retain samples in the corresponding bins.
• Maintain an accurate inventory of the retain samples.
• Scrap samples as needed.
• Maintain accurate record of all quality checks performed.

General Responsibilities:

• Communicate quality issues to Management.
• This position has the responsibilities and authority to identify departures from the quality system or test procedures and document such observations in accordance with the prescribed Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions, and Forms.
• Support quality and continuous improvement process.
• Perform other duties as dictated by Management.

Education:

• High School Diploma and/or 1-year work experience in a testing laboratory may b e acceptable in lieu of education.
• Basic knowledge of computer operation skills to include excel, word, email, and laboratory databases.
• Written and oral communication skills are essential to obtain or clarify test instructions with clients and internal staff.
• Time management skills are useful to ensure that samples are quickly prepared for testing and to perform other tasks.

Work Environment::
The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely uses standard office equipment which may include lifting up to 30 pounds.
• This position involves walking for extended periods of time combined with frequent exposure to manufacturing areas were moving mechanical parts and heavy machinery are located.
• The employee must be comfortable with performing work in the laboratories, production, sample retain, and receiving area settings.

Work Schedule:

• Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM (shifts may vary based on the needs of the company).
• Occasional overtime may be required.
• No travel required.
