We are seeking a Sterile Processing Technician 1 – Sterile Processing that will be responsible for the effective cleaning, inspection, maintenance, proper sterilization and distribution of sterile instrumentation and equipment. Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure all supplies, instrumentation and equipment are available for surgical cases as well as other procedures requiring sterile supplies and/or instrumentation. Knowledgeable in sterile processing standard and serves as a patient safety advocate.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Instrument Decontamination:
Anticipate workload and coordinates with operating room staff
Prioritize instrumentation upon arrival ensuring proper initial care
Sort instruments
Disassemble and reassemble instruments correctly when appropriate
Inspect instruments and tests for proper function. Initiate repairs for any malfunctioning instrumentation
Select appropriate cleaning and disinfection method, and ensure adequate cleaning of all instrumentation
Trouble shoot equipment
Complete appropriate documentation
Instrument Assembly:
Correctly identify and organize instrumentation in preparation for assembly
Inspect instrumentation to ensure proper cleaning and instrument function
Take initiative to follow up on identified issues
Assemble instrumentation according to pre-established guides
Ensure appropriate wrapping/container for sterilization method
Sterilization:
Select appropriate sterilization method
Ensure proper parameters for sterilization
Conduct quality control measures to ensure parameters are met
Take appropriate follow-up action when parameters are not met
Trouble shoots equipment to ensure proper functioning
Complete documentation
Sterile Storage and Distribution:
Ensure proper sterile storage of instrumentation, supplies, and equipment following established guidelines
Utilize instrument tracking effectively to manage inventory
Handle sterile packages appropriately. Inspects sterile packages integrity prior to distribution
Review surgery schedule and anticipates instrumentation needs
Assemble case carts and reviews for completeness prior to distribution
Respond promptly to operating rooms for unanticipated case needs
Review and maintain adequate inventory
Assemble department specific kits in a restricted area that may include medication
Stewardship of Resources:
Care for surgical instrumentation and patient care equipment throughout cleaning and/or sterilization process
Organize and prioritize work assignments in an efficient and cost effective manner
Teamwork:
Demonstrate commitment to teamwork by contributing to meet department needs
Complete all assigned tasks and communicates to incoming shift
Coordinate activities with other members of the health care team
Share knowledge and expertise willingly
Conflict resolution:
Contribute to resolving conflict.
Utilize problem solving skills to promote a positive work environment
Seek assistance to resolve conflict when needed
Give and receive constructive feedback
Department Accountability:
Contribute to and attend staff meetings
Participate in department projects or committees

Maintain and enhance professional expertise through appropriate continuing education
Participate in training of new technicians and students
Performance Improvement:
Actively participate in department quality improvement efforts
Report quality issues and participates in resolution
Suggest topics for further education
Understand the safety risks involved in the department work and remains alert to dangers, is safety minded; always alert and mindful of ways to work in a manner that keeps self and others safe
Qualifications:
Required qualifications for this position includes:
Successful completion of a sterile processing course -OR- one (1) year of healthcare experience
Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification, or a Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) certification, within 18 months of hire
Experience using personal computer and basic software programs
