Description
Coding and Reimbursement Specialist – Support Admin at Revenue Cycle Business Services – Remote within footprint states: AK, CA, MT, OR, TX and/or WA.
Applies CPT-4 codes to hospital accounts based on documentation provided by physicians for cardiovascular and interventional radiology cases. Adheres to strict federal coding rules in selecting codes that appropriately reflect the condition, which the patient had, and the care that was provided. Balances need for 95% accuracy against timely completion for billing deadlines. Assists other areas in the hospital in the review, corrections, and rebills of coded accounts.
• Knowledgeably applies CPT charge codes to accounts for compliant and complete charging of Cath Lab and Interventional Radiology service lines.
• RCS Coding and Reimbursement Specialist shall review medical record (surgical logs) for incomplete/missing physician and nursing documentation and facilitate resolution through the department for correction.
• Responsible for review and resolution of department charge review WQ and CCI/NCCI edits.
• Respond to all requests from Revenue Integrity and Department Liaisons/Billing with questions on surgical log charges.
• Respond to requested charging audits (RAC, Internal and External audits).
• Provides feedback and education to department leaders on charging and documentation errors.
• Provide education to supported departments on any new CPT/charging practices that will affect the work flow.
• Maintain up to date knowledge of the current changes of coding practices by reading source material, such as Coding Clinic, Medicare Newsletters, Dr. Z, and other professional journals.
• Attend department meetings and attend/read all education workshops, or any other required meetings as determined by department leadership.
• Track ongoing issues and escalate to department leadership in a timely manner.
Required qualifications:
Coursework/Trained in use of at lease one encoder product or equivalent education/experience.
Completion of coding classes in AHIMA certified coding program.
4 years CPT, ICD-10-PCS, and ICD-10-CM acute care hospital coding experience. Ambulatory Coding and Clinical experience may be considered in lieu of acute hospital coding experience.
Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).or;
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).or;
Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC, COC,CIC, CIRCC)
