We are currently seeking a Senior Software Assurance Engineer to join our Major Service Provider (MSP) division in Brisbane. Our MSP Division, is part of a consortium of independent, technical partners, supported by a range of specialist SMEs. We share and support Defence’s commitment to growing and improving Australia’s military capability. We do this by delivering large, long term, integrated work packages across the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG). In doing so we work closely with both uniformed and public service staff to help plan the acquisition and support of advanced military systems and equipment through the provision of rigorous analysis, advice and assurance; we relish solving the unique and challenging problems this work entails. By joining us you could be working on the Explosive Materiel Branch (EMB) Integrated Work Package contract.

About the Role

The Senior Software Assurance Engineer will work within a multidisciplinary team as a valued member of the QinetiQ Operations and Delivery team, focused on the delivery of exceptional customer outcomes, including the provision of high quality technical advice. The advice and recommendations you will be responsible for making regarding software quality assurance and critical software development will be used to support the acquisition and integration of new weapon capabilities into Defence, as well as upgrades to existing weapon capabilities.

For those new to the Defence sector, our unique in-house training program and ongoing support from our Principal Engineers, will provide you with accelerated learning and enable you to quickly integrate into one of the most exciting and dynamic areas of Defence.

As Senior Software Assurance Engineer, your key responsibilities will include:

Providing authoritative advice to projects/SPOs on required software standards/specifications, software product T&E and certification associated with weapons and weapon platform integration.

Develop and/or review technical assessments related to the software assurance of Explosive Ordnance (EO) materiel.

Develop, and/or provide input to, procedures and publications relating to the software assurance of EO materiel.

Develop and manage EMB application and tailoring guides, concerning weapons system software assurance, for relevant EO publications, design standards and specifications, in collaboration with Directorate of Ordnance Safety and relevant communities of practice.

Provide specialist engineering and technical advice to the Australian Defence Organisation (ADO) related to the software assurance of EO materiel.

To be successful in the role you will need:
Higher degree qualifications or relevant continual training to maintain professional competencies in weapon system software assurance or similar technical/regulated domains such as Aerospace

Experience in critical systems software development and quality assurance activities

Knowledge of what constitutes a best (acceptable) practice software development processes and standards for development of (safety) critical software

An understanding of design standards associated with weapon/critical system software assurance, for example:

AOP 52 – Guidance On Software Safety Design And Assessment Of Munition-related Computing Systems

DO-178B, Software Considerations in Airborne Systems and Equipment Certification

STANAG 4452 – Safety Assessment Requirements For Munition Related Computing Systems

The social and professional ability to work as an effective team member, make responsible decisions on matters assigned, consult, recommend and advise on system software assurance

The ability work as an independent SME, manage and prioritise competing demands from stakeholders and to lead organisational improvement and professional development of junior non-SME engineering staff.

Demonstrated ability as an excellent communicator, written and spoken. As one of the organisations SMEs, and the only one relating to Software Assurance, you will be required to communicate with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
