Quinte Waste Solutions is the operating name of the Centre & South Hastings Waste Services Board.
Established in 1990, Quinte Waste Solutions provides curbside recycling, commercial recycling, household hazardous waste collection and waste electronics collection for the 9 municipal partners that make up the Board.
Funding to operate these diversion programs in the area comes from three sources. Municipal funding through your property taxes, revenue from the materials collected and sold as well as funding received by Industry Funding Organizations (IFO) who levy fees from product stewards (manufacturers and 1st Importers). This is referred to as Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). There are separate stewards for each of the Blue Box, Municipal Hazardous and Special Waste program, and the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Programs.
The amounts of funding municipalities receive from Industry Funding Organizations is based on tonnages collected from the previous year reported to Waste Diversion Ontario.

Reporting to: Finance-Operations Manager
Extent of position: This is a part-time position assisting with the plant scale and reception desk as well as assisting the Finance-Operations Manager with general bookkeeping tasks as required.
This position would comprise 20 hours per week, and general hours worked would be Monday to Friday from 9:00 until 1:00. Some flexibility is required as the position would also require working some Statutory Holidays, in rotation with three other staff people, scaling trucks in and out. The position will also fill in for the Scale Clerk when they are away. Additional special projects and other duties may be assigned and result in altered hours.
Qualifications:
Duties – Scale clerk: Scaling recycling and transport trucks in and out of recycling facility, and production of associated paperwork. Also included are assistance in the production of month-end statistics, reception duties and dealing with container sales such as blue boxes. This position requires basic computer skills as well as a good telephone manner/customer service skills while responding to resident inquiries.
Accounting: This is an entry level position in the Finance department and would begin with training in verification and entry of Customer and Vendor Invoices; training will be provided. Further accounting will allow for this staff person to take some tasks from the Finance-Operations Manager as these two positions adjust to new circumstances in the industry.
Vacation Fill-in: This position would cover the responsibilities of the scale clerk or some of the duties of the Finance-Operations Manager, including creating and maintaining various statistical spreadsheets. Hours and duties would vary according to the needs of the organization.
Statutory Holiday Duties: Recycling collection takes place as usual on all Statutory Holidays except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, if those holidays fall on a weekday. This position would be required to staff the scale on Statutory Holidays, in rotation with at least 3 other staff. This generally results in each staff person working 3 Statutory Holidays per year, for which they receive the appropriate pay as stipulated in the Employment Standards Act.
Rate of Pay: $22.57 per hour
