Job summary:
Red Hat is the premier open source company building Enterprise Software through open-source methods. The Red Hat Ceph Engineering team is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join us remotely or in person in Australia. In this role, you will be part of a team developing and maintaining Red Hat’s premier software-defined storage products Red Hat Cloud Suite and Red Hat OpenShift Data Foundation. As a member of this team, you will be learning the internals of Ceph – a unique and successful storage architecture, and helping to continuously improve these Ceph-based products. Successful applicants must reside in a country where Red Hat is registered to do business.
Primary job responsibilities:
- Plan, implement, and maintain new features for Ceph
- Review pull requests
- Write unit and integration tests
- Assist in design reviews
- Respond on community mailing lists, etc.
Required skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or demonstrated equivalent experience; Master’s degree is a plus
- Good communication skills and ability to work with a globally distributed team
- 5+ years of system software development experience
- Experience with C or C++
- Basic user-level knowledge of Linux
- Ability to learn quickly, and to produce quality work with a high level of attention to detail
The following will be considered a plus:
- Python programming skills
- Experience with Ceph or other systems, networking, or storage technologies
- Experience working with distributed teams, delivering enterprise quality software, and working on open source software projects
- Knowledge of operating systems, especially Linux, internals
