About the job:
The Red Hat Developer Experience Engineering team is looking for a Site Reliability Software Engineer to join us in Australia or New Zealand. In this role, you’ll join a team of engineers and core open source developers with deep technical understanding of software, information technology, and tools developers use, who enjoy taking a holistic view of complex systems. You will contribute through technical leadership to significant parts of Red Hat’s developer experience portfolio and enable the hosting and operating of it as a service. You should have passion for building modern cloud-native microservices platforms, containerized applications, and managed services. As a Site Reliability Software Engineer, you will help lead incident management, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement activities, managing engineering efforts against a service-level agreement (SLA) and error budget. You will be the voice of Red Hat’s technical contributor, delivering designs, features, and capabilities that help the community and our customers to achieve their business and technical goals with Red Hat’s solutions. You will collaborate with community, content strategists, product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to understand the customer perspective and create effective solutions in support of the team’s mission. Successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business.
What you will do:
- Contribute to build highly available, high-volume infrastructure on Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform and other Red Hat’s technologies
- Develop and manage the developer managed services, including monitoring and performance metrics
- Identify single points of failure and other high-risk architecture issues; propose and implement more resilient solutions
- Implement disaster recovery processes
- Participate in product release cycles, deploying code to integration, staging, and production environments, integrating with continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD) tooling, monitoring, and change management
- Develop new features, scaling rules, configuration and deployment automation, monitoring, and self-healing processes
- Create and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for performing maintenance tasks, applying configuration changes and remediating problems in our environment
- Use your excellent communication skills to communicate with other Red Hat’s engineers, product managers, and management across the globe
- Prototype ideas and communicate results
- Document code and systems throughout the development life cycle
- Deliver demonstrations and technical presentations to a varied audience
- Work in a fast-paced environment
What you will bring:
- Experience using object-oriented languages; experience with Go is a big plus
- Experience managing Linux-based systems in a production environment
- Experience with enterprise system monitoring; knowledge of Prometheus is a plus
- 1+ year(s) of experience with Kubernetes
- 1+ year(s) of experience with containers on Linux
- Ability to quickly learn and use new tools and technologies
- Excellent communication skills and experience working directly with and presenting to customers; fluent language skills in English
- Demonstrated ability to quickly and accurately troubleshoot systems issues
- Solid innovation skills and passion for technology
- Ability to work without direct supervision in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
